Obama Derangement Syndrome may have reached a new peak last week when President Obama was literally criticized for walking and chewing gum at the same time.

As everyone knows, President Obama has long struggled to kick his smoking habit (Marlboros, not Newports), and drew jeers from Chinese bloggers last week for chewing nicotine gum while walking with Chinese President Xi Jinping last Tuesday. Naturally, the conservative media was delighted by the flap, but the mainstream media reported on it as well.

Now in Brisbane, Australia for the G20 Summit, President Obama has done it again:

Now, the knee-jerk “who gives a ****?” reaction you’re feeling right now is understandable, but honestly, as a fellow attempted former smoker, the President’s continued reliance on the gum is a bit concerning. From a human interest perspective, as a concerned American, I do wonder if the President is fighting a relapse, and hope he pushes through it. My problem is with the way it has been covered, and not just the 1950s gym-teacher attitude the media copped about it. You’d think the guy was a reefer addict, or something.

No, what I find curious is this latest gum-chewing episode’s path to glory. That video is from ABC News, but the gum-chewing was first reported by McClatchy White House Correspondent Anita Kumar, who did so using the best typo I’ve ever seen in a pool report (via email):
POTUS, chewing gun, was casually chatting to British Prime Minister David Cameron waiting for meeting to start.
It’s too bad the President wasn’t actually chewing gun, or Republicans might have immediately tried to ban guns.

So, that pool report went out shortly after 1 am this morning, and within about half an hour, Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze.com was up with a post on the incident, headlined “Obama Spotted Chewing Gum While Speaking to Yet Another World Leader.”
President Barack Obama was spotted by the White House press pool early Saturday in Australia chewing gum while speaking with British Prime Minister David Cameron.
…Obama, who has struggled with smoking throughout his life, is a well known user of Nicorette, a type of gum aimed at helping individuals kick the habit.
Then, a few hours later, ABC News published an item on the incident, along with the video, and the very familiar-sounding headline “President Obama Spotted Chewing Gum Again While Abroad.”Now, obviously, there are only so many ways to phrase a slight story like that, but what’s weird is that this isn’t the first time I’ve spotted ABC News taking cues from Beck’s website. When someone turns on Fox News, the conservative media influence is obvious, but the broadcast nets are supposed to be objective, or even liberal if you listen to conservative whining.

As for the President’s gum-chewing, it beats her of the alternatives. I’d hate to see how the media would react if he lit up a Cowboy Killer in Cameron’s face, or slapped the **** out of someone in a fit of nicotine deprivation.

Wasn't the White House lit up once already? At least last time it was flaming wooden torches and not a human torch that did it.

They could give him a 3rd term just as a reminder of what they did wrong in the last few elections.

Man arrested for alleged plot to kidnap Obama's dog

Stockert’s car was found to contain a 12-gauge shotgun and a black bolt action rifle, as well as over 300 rounds of ammunition. He was arrested at a Washington hotel and charged with illegally carrying a rifle or shotgun outside a home or business.

“You picked the wrong person to mess with,” Stockert reportedly told police. “I will f--- your world up,” he said, before later claiming he was Jesus Christ and that his parents were John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.

Online court records show Stockert was ordered released from custody Friday but must wear an ankle monitor.

Must see the comments on this article. Now I know where a couple of 'special' people on CC get their Anti- Liberal ammo.......

What's really sad, however, is that the readers of the Fox News website may be even sicker than the would-be dognapper. Responding to the story was a flurry of offensive remarks directed at the President and his family. They ran the gamut from being insulting to outright fantasies of assassination.

Apparently, Fox & Friends couldn’t think of a legitimate reason to attack President Obama for making the bison the national mammal. So the Curvy Couch Crew suggested the bison was going to replace the bald eagle... which is a bird.

As The Washington Post noted, most media outlets “took it in stride” when the Obama administration made the announcement that the bison is now the national mammal. But not Fox News.

“Have we forgotten why the bald eagle is America’s original symbol of freedom?” cohost Steve Doocy “asked.”

Guest Al Cecere, president of the American Eagle Foundation, there with an eagle named "Challenger," told the viewers that there’s no threat since the bald eagle has been the national bird for 234 years.

But the fact that one's a bird and the other a mammal didn't seem to register with the Fox hosts.

Without Obama, once-booming gun industry poised to shrink

President Trump’s election appears to be negatively affecting gun sales in the U.S. and the bubble appears to be bursting despite a staunch advocate for gun rights in the White House and Republicans ruling Congress.

"President Obama was the best gun salesman the world has ever seen," Karl Sorken, a production manager at Battle Rifle Co. in Houston. Sorken is an Army veteran and self-described liberal who voted for Obama and notes the change for the industry under Trump is a topic of conversation in the shop.

Fears of government limits on guns -- some real, some perceived -- led to a surge in demand during Obama's tenure and manufacturers leapt to keep up. Over the decade ending in 2015, the number of U.S. companies licensed to make firearms jumped 362 percent.

"The trends really almost since Election Day or election night have been that gun sales have slacked off," said Robert Spitzer, political science department chairman at State University of New York at Cortland. "When you take away Barack Obama and you give the Republicans control of both houses of Congress, which is extremely friendly to the gun lobby, then the political pressure subsides.

And that surely is at least a key part of the explanation for the drop-off in sales."

The Washington Post reported that the FBI conducted about 500,000 fewer background checks in December 2016 then in 2015. Gun sales this year have reportedly dropped about 17 percent.

From 2004 to 2013, sales of all handguns -- pistols and revolvers -- increased nearly fivefold, according to industry figures. Sales of rifles tripled in that timeframe.
