What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

NSA Director Keith Alexander has decided that the best way to prevent illegal data leaks is to reduce the number of ears and eyes involved. During a talk at a cybersecurity conference in New York this week, Alexander revealed his plans to cut 90% of the System Administration workforce at the NSA. 'What we're in the process of doing — not fast enough — is reducing our system administrators by about 90 percent,' he said. Alluding to an issue of mistrust, Alexander further clarified: 'At the end of the day it's about people and trust ... if they misuse that trust they can cause huge damage.' Apparently, breaking the law and lying about it leaves one without a sense of irony when speaking in public."

lol The USA is trying to create a nation of speechless people? Boy, and people say that Herb Hoover was fond of the abuse of power. He'd really love this crap. "We're out to protect you so we're going to document every second of your life". The founding fathers would be spitting nails.

I wonder if he'll be selected to solve the Mental Illness treatment costs issues too?

"cut" is firing

doesnt firing mean laying off because of something the worker ahs done to violate a rule, to be replaced by someone else, wehreas laying off means sending them off owing to making a position redundant?

laying off is temporary and the employer will take them back if their position becomes available again.

(in Canada that means 6/mo's of UIC)

cut from the ranks or fired is the employer no longer needs you.. end of story.. move on.. position no longer exists or you have been replaced.

The link supports my understanding. Thanks. Laid off: the position is made redundant. Fired: you're getting replaced owing to something you did.

Times are changing, Obama can't stand the fact Russia gave Snowden refuge.
While it could have been different its not the guy did what he thought was right.
Funny if you do what you think is right people are outraged on one hand.
On the other hand they scream about politicians who don't do the right thing.
I suppose do the right thing really means do what we want you to do and if you
don't its the wrong thing.

For those debating whether these people are going to be fired or laid off or reduced what does it matter?

Of course no where does the story mention how many will be reduced from the main contractor Booz Allen that Snowden worked for.............

"NSA Director Keith Alexander has decided that the best way to prevent illegal data leaks is to reduce the number of ears and eyes involved.

What we're in the process of doing - not fast enough - is reducing our system administrators by about 90 percent," he said.

The remarks came as the agency is facing scrutiny after Snowden, who had been one of about 1,000 system administrators who help run the agency's networks, leaked classified details about surveillance programs to the press.

Before the change, "what we've done is we've put people in the loop of transferring data, securing networks and doing things that machines are probably better at doing," Alexander said.

Using technology to automate much of the work now done by employees and contractors would make the NSA's networks "more defensible and more secure," as well as faster, he said at the conference, in which he did not mention Snowden by name.

NSA Chief General Keith Alexander Lies to Congress

General Keith Alexander is NSA director. He’s US Cyber Command head. He’s in charge of lawlessly spying. He directs illegal hacking
.
He does both globally. He’s a serial lawbreaker. He violates fundamental constitutional law. He testified before Congress. More on that below.

Edward Joseph Snowden revealed what vital to know. He exposed unconstitutional spying. He said more. He accused NSA of lawless hacking. He knows. He was there. He revealed what he saw firsthand.

Confessed Liar To Congress, James Clapper, Gets To Set Up The ‘Independent’ Review Over NSA Surveillance

Well, this is rather incredible. Remember on Friday how one of President Obama’s efforts to get people to trust the government more concerning the NSA’s surveillance efforts was to create an “outside” and “independent” board to review it all? Specifically, he said:

Fourth, we’re forming a high-level group of outside experts to review our entire intelligence and communications technologies. We need new thinking for a new era. We now have to unravel terrorist plots by finding a needle in the haystack of global telecommunications. And meanwhile, technology has given governments — including our own — unprecedented capability to monitor communications.

So I am tasking this independent group to step back and review our capabilities — particularly our surveillance technologies. And they’ll consider how we can maintain the trust of the people, how we can make sure that there absolutely is no abuse in terms of how these surveillance technologies are used, ask how surveillance impacts our foreign policy — particularly in an age when more and more information is becoming public. And they will provide an interim report in 60 days and a final report by the end of this year, so that we can move forward with a better understanding of how these programs impact our security, our privacy, and our foreign policy.

Okay. Outside, independent. Sure, that might help. Except, that was Friday. Today is Monday. And, on Monday we learn that “outside” and “independent” actually means setup by Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper – the same guy who has already admitted to lying to Congress about the program, and has received no punishment for doing so. This is independent? From this we’re supposed to expect real oversight?!?
