Call me crazy but I don't understand. Isn't our govt supposed to be transparent and work for us? Ok, there is some stuff that should be classified but it should only be what relates to countries we are actively engaged in conflict with. Anything relating to policies or actions that affect our own citizenry should be completely open to the public. If the govt is doing something it wants to hide from us it is guaranteed up to no good. We as citizens need to let our representatives know that if they pass any legislation they feel they need to hide from us we will fire their a$$es...by force if needed.

"Obama" didn't do it. People who work with classified information have been encouraged to watch each other since at least 1979, to my personal knowledge. It's standard policy, always has been. This is just Locutus and Company's Baracknophobia, again.

Reminds me of when the Bush administration issued a new Continuity of Operations Plan. All the lefties were screaming "Bush is planning to suspend the Constitution and impose a dictatorship!" It was basically the same continuity plan we've had since the forties.

Same here. People with clearances have always been required to report security threats.

Of course, to wingnuts this is all part of Obama's Kenyan Muslim Socialist Plan to Destroy America.

I have worked in the field TB and you are correct that those with access to classified material have been required to watch each other and report for many, many years. The 'new' part of this is that it now covers basically everyone who works for the govt in any way. We also have to consider that the govt now, to cover their tracks and hide their illegal actions, have made almost everything classified.

I didn't say it wasn't weird and horrible. Just that it ain't new.

And there is no "criminal penalty" for failing to report for government employees who aren't cleared.
