Texas can cut off funding to Planned Parenthood’s family planning programs for poor women, a state judge ruled Monday. Judge Gary Harger said that Texas may exclude otherwise qualified doctors and clinics from receiving state funding if they advocate for abortion rights, attorney general spokeswoman Lauren Bean said.

The state has long banned the use of state funds for abortion, but had continued to reimburse Planned Parenthood clinics for providing basic health care to poor women through the state’s Women’s Health Program. The program provides check-ups and birth control to 110,000 poor women a year, and Planned Parenthood clinics were treating 48,000 of them.

Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit to stop the rule will still go forward, but the judge decided Monday that the ban may go into effect for now. In seeking a temporary restraining order, Planned Parenthood’s patients could have continued to see their current doctors until a final decision was made.

“We are pleased the court rejected Planned Parenthood’s latest attempt to skirt state law,” Bean said. “The Texas Attorney General’s office will continue to defend the Texas Legislature’s decision to prohibit abortion providers and their affiliates from receiving taxpayer dollars through the Women’s Health Program.”

Taxslave I agree with you, Texas is the most backward place on earth and the reason is
because they are supposed to be educated and unfortunately they are not about a lot of
things.
Abortion is not a preferred method of birth control but he fact is it will continue law or no law
an the back street operators will be blessing the Texas courts for this windfall.

I find it odd how the groups that complain about high taxes and the 50% not paying any taxes work so hard to perpetuate poverty and ignorance. Must give themselves a pat on the back everytime an unwanted child is born into poverty to perpetuate the cycle.

This is just wrong on so many levels but it's only the poor that will really be affected. People with money find a way to do exactly what they want when they need.

You sound just like Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Eugenics (planned parenthood) who used the blanket term 'the poor' to justify eugenicide of blacks, hispanics, natives and the handicapped.

You sound like a parrot for the anti rights groups.

Whose rights am I against?

How does the white 78% of the US population manage to only have 36% of the abortions? Minorities boink more?

The rights of women to control their bodies.
You will find that for the most part whites are better educated and more affluent giving them better access to birth control and health care.. DO your figures include the rich whites that quietly have abortions done on their own?

How do you tie a womans' rights issue to a eugenics organization?

Whites attend different schools therefore are better educated? Birth control is too expensive for non-whites? Impoverished whites get discounts on condoms, sponges, shots, birth control pills etc? Rich whites are whiter than other whites?

Rich righteous white people probably account for 99% of abortions done while out of country.

Why would they need to go out of country?

15.1% of 'Mericas are poor. In 2010, 9.9% of whites, 27.4% of blacks and 26.6% of Hispanics were poor, yet white are still 36% of abortions.

That isn't disproportionate and minorities aren't targeted? Ooooookaaaaay.

Why? So they can sneak it in without the neighbors finding out. Don't take the pulpit stuff too seriously, everyone does what they feel they need to do and all have their own justifications.
