From Republicans, a Parting Slap at Bob Dole

Former Senator Bob Dole, 89 years old and in a wheelchair, went onto to the floor of the Senate today to urge his former colleagues to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities. Mr. Dole, a disabled veteran, has been one of the leading voices urging ratification of the treaty, which seeks to bring the world closer to the high standard set by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the landmark civil-rights law enacted under President George H.W. Bush.

One by one, according to Roll Call, the senators approached Mr. Dole to pat his shoulder or clasp his hand, making gestures of respect for the man who was for many years the Republican majority leader.

Then he was wheeled away, and all but a handful of the Republicans bailed out on him. The treaty failed. It needed a two-thirds vote to pass, or 67 votes, and fell six short.

So much for America’s support of a global agreement “to promote, protect, and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities.”
The vote was a triumph for Glenn Beck, Rick Santorum and others on the hard-right loon fringe, who have been feverishly denouncing the treaty as a United Nations world-government conspiracy to kill disabled children (you can look it up).

Only eight Republicans voted yes

Awwww... the UN can't get the US to pay for another money sucking UN department. Too bad. We have our ADA... let other countries do their own. It's common sense.

We really must fear the superstitious and paranoid among us............What's most confusing about the following brain trusts discussing the situation is they fear the Treaty will cause 'disabled children to be killed (abortion)' (they don't want that) or 'cradle to grave assistance for disabled children' (they don't like that either). They are very conflicted people.............

One of the lesser-known but extremely active opponents of the bill was homeschooling activist Michael Farris.

During an interview with Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, he claimed that the treaty will prompt the United Nations to ‘get control’ of children with glasses or ADHD and remove them from their families.

While speaking with the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer, the two warned that the treaty could lead to the deaths of disabled children, all the while admitting they have no evidence it would do such beyond their pure speculation.

After warning that the treaty will kill children, Farris told conservative talk show host Steve Deace that the treaty will create a “cradle-to-grave care for the disabled” and said if the U.S. ratifies it “signing up to be an official socialist nation.” Farris claimed that the treaty will treat the parents of disabled children like child abusers in order to grow government power and implement “coercive socialism.”

The US already has the ADA of 1990 (Passed by George Bush Sr.) which this UN treaty was modeled after and is not even as strict as our own laws. Voting against this treaty does nothing except deny the UN more ways to get into the pockets of the US Taxpayers.

So where's the proof the UN is using these places as collateral?

And I won't even as you to prove that the IMF has taken over the list you provided because just like the collateral question your statements are lunacy and false.

I will let you guess what the UN is doing to Canada's sites.............

Wonders of nature and marvels made by people stretch all across Canada. From a preserved Haida village in B.C. through Alberta's rich dinosaur fossil grounds to old Quebec City and a Viking settlement in Newfoundland, 15 remarkable Canadian places have been deemed World Heritage sites by the United Nations. CBC Digital Archives takes a tour of some of these internationally recognized national treasures.

Being deemed a world heritage site can be a mixed blessing. Much like having your house deemed a heritage site. It can make future development impossible. Good only for those that have a thing for living in the past.

The World
The United Nations is nothing more than a club for "3rd World Countries" to attempt to impose their will on everyone on earth.

It serves NO useful purpose whatsoever. Frankly, the United States should cut their financial support to the exact percentage of their budget, that the population of the USA bears to the population of the world. No more, and no less.

You would see a mass exodux of vastly overpaid fools from that agency, fools that attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of the USA and other Western countries.
