The only problem for the Republicans is this, yes they control the House the White House and
the Senate are in the hands of the Democrats. If the House insists on no compromise they will
lose that too next time out in mid term elections. Here is why, Republicans by and large elected
their representatives from rural and regionally rural areas. they also elected some mainstream
conservative reps in urban areas. Should they be obstructionist the urban mainstream reps will
lose their seats next time out and that would leave the fringe right in charge of the party for the
next Presidential Election and the Democrats would win again.
However should the Democrats just dig in, and refuse any compromise there would also be a
backlash.
No there is too much at stake for both not to reach out a bit. If the GOP digs in they do so at their
own peril. They also need to give up the old ideas they have about marriage laws and pot and
the social safety net people in Urban America will start to demand it not dream about it. If that
happens it will be a long time before the Republicans reclaim the White House
