AV Expert ?

I would assume audio-visual expert. Probably the guys who set up multimedia projectors and screens and microphones etc for conferences and meetings.
The reason why you need an Audio and Visual expert is for your home theater system (or car nowadays) because it takes a team of engineers to get the cabling and wiring modifications of your home done correctly that the common homeowner wouldn't know how to do properly.
Would recommend any Audio Visual magazine to get some idea's on your project.

Maybe you mean AV (audio-video/audio-visual) tech? Have doubts about anyone who calls him/herself expert.
Geez, my parents have a $150,000 home theather system being installed right now, I am %100 positive the expert is your consultant and the tech is the installer.
This is a picture of what my parents home theater is going to look like completed in 2011.
Just look up Audio Visual Consultants on google to find a list of experts that will design and enginner your AV Project for you, and they will act as your contractor engineers for the design for the construction and installation of your project.
What you didn't know is that the reason for an Audio Visual Expert is because it's going to take dozens of companies to put together your average high end project. Including Carpenters, Electricians, Painters, Apolsterers, Audio and Visual Techs.
Did you ever stop to think the OP may be asking because there's an open AV course offered at the local college?
Of course! It's a true trade and art depending on where you live there can be a high demand for AV Experts which most start as AV Techs and installers to get a good feel of how it is done.
Reality is that I live in most expensive track home part in San Diego on top the highest mountain with average home prices at 2 Million. There is a big demand for AV Experts here, considering some of our custom homes go up to 5 million each.
This is the end of the line for home theaters. (New Palais Palace, Potsdam has two.)
