An American teenager put a cell phone up for auction on eBay. The victor of the auction turned out to be a Nigerian scammer who wanted to defraud the seller. The seller figured out that the top bidder was a scammer and instead proceeded to give the phone to the second highest (reputable) bidder.

The details of the case are at: http://blog.ravitek.com/?p=15

what is it with internet scams and nigerians?

I've lost count of the amount of nigerians who have offered to let me launder some money for them if i only give them my bank account details

Why do you think they are scammers, hermanntrude?

I currently have invested all of my bank accounts, mortgaged my home, and borrowed money from friends to invest in this magnificent opportunity. I am very sorry for the weathy magnate who died in that horrific Alaskan plane crash without a designated heir, but now I am in line to get all his money- and just because I was lucky enough to be the one who answered the email!

I am salivating at my one off opportunity!

I get on average, about 3 or 4 nigerian scams via e-mail daily. Let me check my hotmail, surely there is one awaiting me.\

Found one, this seems like a really good deal, might have to give him a call.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please kindly accept my apology for sending unsolicited mail to you.
I
believe you are a highly respected personality, considering the fact
that I sourced your profile from a human resource profile database on
your country. Though, I do not know to what extent you are familiar
with events.

Well, I am Barrister Frank Bobby, a Solicitor. I am the Personal
Attorney to Mr. Steve Anderson , who used to work with Agip Oil
Company
in Nigeria. On the 21st of April 2003, his wife and their three
children were involved in a car accident along Abuja Express Road.

Unfortunately, they all lost their lives in the event of the
accident.
Since then I have made several enquiries to your Embassy to locate
any
of my client's relatives, this has also proved unsuccessful. After
these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his relatives
over the Internet to locate any member of his family but to no avail,
hence, I contacted you to assist in repatriating the money left
behind
by my client in a Finance Company. Particularly, the Finance House
where the deceased deposited the US$15 Million (Fifteen Million
United
States Dollars only).

Consequently, this Finance House issued me a notice to provide the
Next of Kin to claim the US$15 Million (Fifteen Million United States
Dollars only) in their custody within the next ten official working
days. Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for
over
3 years now, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of
the deceased to claim the fund as the Next of Kin to him so that the
fund will be transferred to your account by the Finance House.

Upon receipt of the fund, I will come over to your country to meet
with you for the disbursement of the fund and then you and I will
share
the money in this order: 70% will be for me, 30% will be for you. I
have all the necessary legal documents that can back our claim we
will
make with the Finance House.

All I require is your honest co-operation to enable us seeing this
deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a
legitimate
arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

You are needed as a next of kin to inherit your brother left fund

Best regards .
Barrister Frank (Esq)

I've had a few of these. But there must be a way to beat them at their own game. To con the conners. If I was younger and as mischievous as I was then I'd give it a damn good try! I'm sure I could make a few thousand off them that they couldn't retract.

Gotta love NFL, ten months of nothing but shoveling when I lived there. I keep getting phone calls telling me I won a free trip and to hang on the line. Sure I did, then I hang up.

you have to charter a flight out of fox lake but u can fly scheduled to gander. gander is really cool cos it's enormous compared to the amount of actual flights there, cos it used to eba refuelling point for planes coming transatlantic, back when they weren't big enough to take much fuel
