U.S. unveils pinpoint electromagnetic pulse weapon

Once the stuff of science fiction, the U.S. air force last week unveiled its new electromagnetic pulse weapon, which can fry electronics with precision accuracy.
Called the counter-electronics high-powered microwave advanced missile project, or CHAMP, the computer-killing missile was on display last week during the first ever U.S. Defence Lab Day, where the Pentagon displayed its shiny new war-faring gizmos and gadgets.
CHAMP targets an area with bursts of high-power microwave energy, effectively disabling all electronic and data systems.
It's not to be confused with the wildly dangerous nuclear EMP weapons tested after the Cold War, which, according to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, could wipe out major chunks of the power grid across multiple states.
CHAMP, on the other hand, can pinpoint specific targets. The Air Force could, conceivably, take out all the electronic systems in a terrorist compound while leaving nearby civilians unaffected.
Developed by weapons giant Boeing, CHAMP was first successfully tested in 2012 in a flight over the Utah Test and Training Range, where it successfully shut down all the computers in a building.
"This technology marks a new era in modern-day warfare," Keith Coleman, CHAMP program manager for Boeing Phantom Works, said at the time. "In the near future, this technology may be used to render an enemy's electronic and data systems useless even before the first troops or aircraft arrive."
The technology has since been improved upon and is ready to be deployed in the field, where the air force plans to mount it on stealthy, long-range missiles.
The American electromagnetic pulse weapon, called CHAMP, is seen in this simulated image targeting a specific object from a stealth plane. (YouTube/Screengrab)

I hope this weapon restrains Canadian fantasies about invading the United States.
sorry but we're mid invasion...we blend right in...just like we're one of you...that was the plan...must be working

you first, next...the universe

soon we will even stop apologizing...eh?

Not unlike a smartmeter than can turn a building or cell tower on or off from miles away. The drone would be limited communication for the 'ones in control' and fly it out of range and it becomes a dead zone again.

If the ones in that zone can restore power then a wired network is possible as there are public software programs that allow for a neighborhood network using existing wires so there would be a limit in how far the network would reach. Any distance is better than 'zero'.

Wireless should be easy to do in a line of sight version.

Not as effective as FOX (not the) NEWS, however, if those Mexican orphans ever hear of us we are done for as we can't tell the difference between our own orphaned brown kids and the ones that are sneaking in see reservation life as being 3 steps up in their standard of living just because there aren't something called 'death-squads' looking for you.

Two locations is not an invasion or a conquest of any kind , Florida and New Mexico still call Canadians 'the other white meat'. I'm thinking that isn't a term of endearment. Real or invisible, a chain is a chain.

In your world that would be a win/win. You are aware that we backed you in the last two wars you couldn't handle on your own, we have you full military support in this 'adventure' right?? Right??? RIGHT?????

We already have invaded and are taking land one mortgage at a time.

Will you be bundling them as well?
