Are we in for a scorcher of a summer?

Just got to thinking with this brutal winter right across Canada and most of N.A. we could be in for a blistering summer just to balance things off a little. What do you think?

Could be. One of the features of climate change is more and greater weather extremes, though I don't think Mother Nature (B itch Nature, more like) has any sense of balance.

Vancouver Island
my grandaughter, whom has been working in ottawa for almost 2 years, now has a new job waiting for
her in langford (victoria area), and she will be back on the island to start by may 10.

she was born and raised in courtenay/comox, where winters are moderate, and now she knows how
the other half lives, and she can't get back here fast enough.

my other grandaughter, who is going to carleton in ottawa, has to return there next fall for
one more year of school, she will get an apartment very close to the university, as she had
a tough time this year travelling to and from, from too far away, then she will also be
coming home to the island.
she said that one of the funniest things she noticed going to school each morning, was all of
the people bobbing up and down at the bus stop, trying to keep warm, she wanted to take a picture
of them, but didn't want to take her hands out of her pockets.

even though our winter was not anything like the rest of canada's, i am enjoying the spring feeling,
and able to work in the yard again, grass is growing, buds on the fruit trees, its very enjoyable.

if summer is scorching, it doesn't last too long, i enjoy spring and fall best, and the moderate
cloudy days of winter, i can still go walking with the dog, without being cold.

In spite of the media BS, this is a normal March. Nasty, windy, rainy, snowy. But it's almost over, and the crocus are waiting for the snow to bugger off - which won't take but a few days when the equinox gets more firmly entrenched.

Bass fishing from a canoe, in the evening, after a scorcher of a summer day is gonna happen. Listening to the tree frogs, BBQ with friends, cold beer.

Wouldn't live anywhere else.

It's like farming. Gotta be born to it.

What does the farmer's almanac say?

Little cooler than average I think Nuggler, while March can be cold and nasty we generally get a few really warm days (in the mid teens) which we haven't had this year.

Now that solar storms are settling down, expect a nice stable summer.

Scorcher or not its not going to be pleasant here. The valley sucks in all the moisture so its always hot and humid. Whoever chose to make this the capital was either an idiot or a sadist.

I haven't seen a Filipino in months.

It was hot and dry last summer. I hope not this one too. This winter-that-won't-go has me acclimatized to Arctic conditions....

It didn't warm up here until May last year. It's supposed to that way for everybody east of Winnipeg this year.

Go up to that big ranch on the east side of the city. They have corrals.

O Keefe isn't it?

That would be on the north side, Petros, in the municipality of Spallumcheen. I think that place has financial aspects! (Take your wallet) -:)

Warnings

10:48 AM ADT Tuesday 25 March 2014
Blizzard warning in effect for:

  • Pictou County
Heavy snow and widespread blowing snow on Wednesday.

This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.
A low pressure system developing off the U.S. seaboard today is forecast to intensify rapidly as it tracks toward the Maritimes on Wednesday. The storm is expected to track near Sable Island Wednesday evening before moving on to Newfoundland on Thursday.

Snow is forecast to begin overnight in Southwestern Nova Scotia and spread to the remainder of the province Wednesday morning. The snow is expected to change to rain late in the day over the eastern half of the mainland and Cape Breton. Elsewhere the snow is expected to taper off Wednesday night. Strong northeast winds will develop during the day Wednesday and gusts up to 100 km/h are possible later Wednesday afternoon and evening. These very strong winds combined with heavy snow will cause widespread whiteout conditions in blowing snow. In general between 25 to 40 centimetres of snow can be expected with this system over most of Nova Scotia. However, some areas over Western and Northern Nova Scotia could locally see in excess of 50 cm, and given the extensive blowing and drifting snow there could be significant variability in snow amounts received within any forecast region.

Additionally on Wednesday afternoon and evening higher than normal water levels combined with rapidly rising wave activity may produce local flooding along much of the Atlantic coast of Mainland Nova Scotia during the high tide late Wednesday. These high water levels combined with the heavy pounding surf could give rise to some coastal erosion in some areas. In the Northumberland Strait water levels will also rise Wednesday evening but appear not to coincide with high tide.

Les Suetes winds gusting up to 160 km/h are expected to develop late Wednesday afternoon and diminish Wednesday evening.
