We knew Halo 4 was coming. Now we know when: November 6, 2012. Microsoft and 343 Studios set a launch date in a press release Tuesday morning, and will be following up the announcement with an appearance on Conan O’Brien.
“With Halo 4 leading the charge, we’re confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history,” Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer said in a statement. “We are beginning a new saga with Halo 4 and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of Halo games and experiences.”
We all had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen in Halo 3, but Halo 4 is a bit more mysterious. We know that Master Chief will be facing some kind of ancient evil, but that isn’t really news for everyone’s favorite Spartan. We can also expect a little more characterization surrounding the typically near-silent protagonist.
Microsoft would be foolish to not keep milking the franchise that essentially cemented its place in the games industry, but time will tell if 343 industries is able to breathe new life into well-worn territory.
