I'm from Toronto. Moved to Alberta 8 years ago. My job will most likely take me to Vancouver within the next 6 months.

My question is is there anyone that has recently moved into the Vancouver or LMD area (from abroad or from within BC) that could comment on the current status of real estate and neighbourhoods that would be desireable for a middle class income family?

I'm aware that moving from Alberta to the Lower Mainland will of course mean a significant cost of living hit. I'm prepared to take the hit for a change of scenery. I love big cities and the mayhem that comes with them. Yes traffic sucks. But I'm used to it, having lived in Toronto.

So I moved to Montreal 4 months ago for graphic design work, or any work in the creative art industry... and so far all i have been able to get is freelance jobs.... that dont pay so well.. now i am experienced, and have the qualifications, and educational background, and skilled what could i be lacking? uhuuu french maybe!???

living in montreal and not knowing a word of french i know im at a disadvantage to get an "ANY" job. but why is it sooo hard to get a creative arts job in montreal. Do you have to be bilingual to work as a designer in this city?

From my personal experience, i dont think that the people in montreal do such a good job at welcoming outsider. i have had people be rude to me and mock me because i wasnt able to reply back in french. why are the people in montreal so harsh towards people who cant speak french! its doesnt really motivate them to learn the language.

Hey everyone, I'm a single guy in Hamilton looking for some good paying jobs in Alberta, willing to reside there permanently. I have a few years of Can. Armed Forces in my background, am currently between semesters at Mohawk College but am Gas Tech III certified, familiar with many types of tooling, peak physical condition, quick learner, and not afraid to get my hands dirty, so to speak. I'm trying all the sites I can find on the net but would appreciate any shortcut help, I'd even be willing to relocate there permanently. Thanks. Rob.

I'm hoping they'll come out to Ontario soon so I can check them out for myself. All I can say right now is that I can't get "Sweet Lies" outta my head!

If things weren't bad enough for GM employees here in Ontario, GM has announced that the Oshawa truck plant will be closed some time in 2009. There was just suppose to have one shift eliminated at the truck plant. Earlier this year, GM has announced the closure of the transmission plant in Windsor which puts 1400 peope out of work either later this year or next year. So far this makes a total of 4000 GM job loses (1400 at Windsor, 2600 at Oshawa) just this year, and the year isn't over yet.

I even wonder if Ford or Chrysler have job cut plans this year. That'll make things even worse for this province.

The Montreal Beer Festival

By Dave Preston

For five years now, the Mondiale de la Bière in Montreal, Quebec, has proclaimed its mission: "To restore beer to its rightful and noble place, by offering the general public the opportunity to taste beer from five continents, while encouraging responsible consumption." It maybe too early to cry "Mission Accomplished," but this ten-day festival, billed as "The largest international beer festival in North America," has certainly made a fine mark on the Canadian beer scene.

Now attracting over 50,000 people to its outdoor island setting in the old port of Montreal on the St. Lawrence River, the festival is a major event but has yet to gain much recognition beyond Quebec, even though most of the 270 or so beers on offer hail from out of province.

hey everyone,

just wondering what kind of music you all listen to and if you're into any musicians/bands that are originally from Quebec? I'm asking because I saw this group's Toronto showcase about a month ago and found out that they are originally from Montreal. They were amazing! They're called The Blue Seeds and their music was just so great. Very mellow and nice to relax too. I actually bought their CD at the show! Aynways yeah, I was just wondering who's heard of them or listens to them since they're from Montreal!?
