Where does Canada stand?/ Who Stands 4 Canada?

Canadians need someone 2 speak 4 Canada and Canadians .Not soley 4 themselves or other foreign interests. We need a great Canadian Leader who can prove, not only 2 canadians, but the Whole world. That we together as Canada, have something to positively contribute to the future of Canada, as a nation as well as a planet . Something to benefit all , something that will influence the whole world Globally ..!

Conservatives - Harper seems like a fairly good leader. Wish we could have heard from Mr.Harper a little more through out the last couple years. Wish he had shown he was out there somewhere leading our country to prosperity . Giving us hope 4 the future..What has he been doing with his time?....Is there a conservative government behind Harper? Are Canadians behind Harper?...Perhaps the problem is Canadians are too far behind the Stephen Harper government...THEY Need to show more leadership and Faith in Canada and our future!

Liberals - Like what Dion is saying .seems to mean well for canada .Wonder if the liberals can actually do it?......It does seem that Dion wants to lead where as Haper wants " The People" to choose who will lead( not too convincingly)....That's risky,,,,Hope people vote!..Wonder if they'll vote liberal if they do? They certainly won't vote conservative!

The Bloq - Are they still around?...I respect the french 4 valuing their heritage and history, but if they choose to separate they would then choose to 2 join a U.s. Style "Global" economy .They would be swallowed whole like if they were to vote conservative! Staying in the Canadian family is the only future that offers options for the french!

NDP - NDP have good ideas . Personally I wish they would join with the greens and become the NDG party ....but anyway......NDP seem to have good ideas on what Canada and Canadians need . They value families and the environment and want what is best for us ..BUT..What can they do to move Canada forward into a prosperous and econonomic "green" friendly future..How can the ndp get us "Beyond tommorow "!...Can they stand up to the big oil bully? Can they truly move Canada forward?

Green - Elizabeth May schmoozin with the liberals ..Not sure about that one, but I do know there is a large demand 4 "Canadian Green Invention". Not only in China but through-out the global economy and the UNIVERSE!!!!(lol) sorry.....couldn't help myself......
Greens are passionate and want to win! Elizebeth sparked me ..Stirred my cold heart, giving me a tinge of hope that we Canadians and all Earths creatures have a heart , a soul and purpose on this planet and BEYOND!!!!..Hmmmmm..mmmm (Beyond Harpers vision.. Greens had an mp elected! ) ..hmmmm mmm ...sorry again..Sorry I m trying to stay grounded and serious but my raw emotion seems to get the best of me. When I begin to talk about green politics, the future of the canadian people, the world........ and this planets place in the universe my mind is overwhelmed with the possibilities and sometimes get's the best of me....O.K. (deep breath) ....How do we keep the greens down to earth long enough to make a positive economic difference for all that is Green? $$$$$$$$....Balance and sustainability is the key! We must also continue to move forward ..Is this possible ..Yes .. I believe so! ... Greens deserve a voice because they speak 4 every living thing that needs a voice but may not speak our language !........

How ever Canadians vote, I really hope they do!...Our future depends on it!......Who stands 4 Canadians and Where does Canada stand is the question...? .....
Questions will be answered..." IN^4 ...3....2.....1..." ......1...Innovation.......2...Incentives....3. Initiatives ..4.....Invention.......Let's go were canadians want to go 4 a change instead of where we as Canada is directed to go....Choose your future , but please, Be sure you choose one with a future!!!
Over and out there from here...
Keep your head in the clouds and your feet on the ground...

I currently work for a multi-national in IT and Security, in the Government sector.

Unfortunately (and rather embarrassingly too) I have some non-custodial convictions dated in 1991, which incidentally has not impaired my elevated UK security clearance level to work with protected UK government content.

Is my immediate priority is to successfully apply for an 'application for criminal rehabilitation' before I can apply for any work/residency visas?

Can this application be done in parallel to any other applications or is it best to get the rehab approved upfront?

Any advise or experiences would be gratefully recieved

Thanks in advance

Singapore and China have agreed to jointly build an eco-city near China's northern port city of Tianjin as a model of sustainable development, The Strait Times reported Thursday.

The model city will have an economy based on the sustainable use of resources the two countries agreed in Beijing during the first meeting of the China-Singapore Joint Steering Committee for the Tianjin Eco-city on Wednesday.

The eco-city will be 40 km from Tianjin, an industrial city 150 km north of Beijing. It is the first joint venture between China and Singapore to address growing concerns about pollution and serve as a model for other projects.

Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng and Chinese vice premier Wang Qishan co-chair the committee.

Plans for the eco-city will rely on Singapore's expertise of solar and wind power, and experience in rainwater recycling, as well as wastewater treatment and desalination of sea water.

Construction began in July and is to be home for 350,000 residents once completed in 10 to 15 years.

Wong is on an official visit to China till Sep 6 at Wang's invitation.

Updated: 2008-09-06 13:40

China launched two satellites to monitor the environment and natural disasters at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday.

The two satellites, launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi Province and carried by a Long March 2C rocket, were expected to enhance the country's capacity to forecast natural disasters, according to Bai Zhaoguang, a leading scientist and designer of the satellites.

The satellites are the first of their kind put into space by China.

They are expected to have a lifespan of more than three years. They have state-of-the-art imaging systems and infrared cameras and provide a global scan every two days.

The satellites can closely track natural disasters, Bai said, and provide quick assessments of damage to guide rescue and reconstruction work.

"The role of the satellites will be significant when China faces such natural disasters as this year's snowstorms and massive earthquake," he said.

The satellites are unparalleled in monitoring the environment in terms of their scale, speed and ability to operate regardless of weather, he said.

China had several natural disasters this year. In the winter, prolonged snowstorms affected large areas of southern and central China and stranded millions of people.

On May 12, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale struck southwest Sichuan Province. It is feared more than 87,000 died in the disaster.

China used satellite images to help assess damage to infrastructure after that quake.

China takes a positive step again .

Yes, over the long weekend, I got to get back to my redneck roots.

I got to go 'home', back to the area I grew up in, in the Peace Country. I went to a little town half the province doesn't even know about, and two stepped in the same gym I've square danced and two stepped in on occasion since I was 13 years old.

I taught my son and daughter to two step, while aunts and uncles and friends spun around us to the country music.

It was a huge leap from my life here, from traveling to France this summer, shopping at the halal deli and the Italian market, visiting with Portuguese neighbors, to head back to the homogeneous, white north, and dance to music I haven't heard in years. A lifetime ago. A redneck lifetime ago.

It's a mere 4 hour trip away from here.... but it feels like such a drastic difference.

This image shows the front of a carrier card for Duck Stamps. WASHINGTON -- It's clearly a case where the U.S. government failed to get all its ducks in a row.

Now callers are getting their feathers ruffled over a typographical mix-up in a phone number that tells hunters where to call to buy their duck stamps.

The Duck stamps, which cost US$15 a piece, are required to hunt migratory waterfowl in the United States.

The carrier card for the duck stamp transposes two numbers so, instead of listing 1-800-782-6724, it lists 1-800-872-6724.

The first number spells out 1-800-STAMP24, while the second number spells out 1-800-TRAMP24.

As a result, people calling a federal phone number to order duck stamps are greeted instead by a phone-sex line where they are enticed by a husky female voice to "talk only to the girls that turn you on," for $1.99 a minute.

The U.S. government uses nearly all the revenue from the stamps to purchase waterfowl habitat for the National Wildlife Refuge System. In 2006-2007, the latest figures available, duck stamp purchases brought in nearly $22 million.

This year's stamps, which feature a pair of northern pintail ducks, went on sale July 1 and are good through June 30 of next year. The error will not be corrected until next year's duck stamps.

The Fish and Wildlife Service, which administers the program, printed about 3.5 million duck stamps attached to cards with the wrong number. An agency spokeswoman, Rachel Levin, said it would cost $300,000 to reprint them.

"I don't know that it would be worth it to do a reprint," she said Thursday. "That's a lot of money we can be using for wildlife conservation. With all of the needs for conservation, it doesn't make sense to divert money away from an important cause."

For those people who like to dial by letter, the card does include the proper 1-800-STAMP24.

"As best we know, it was a typographical error that was not caught," Levin said, stressing that the stamps are still valid.

The agency first learned of the mistake a few days ago, when a duck stamp owner informed them about the glitch. Levin said the agency has not received any complaints.

The error, which was first reported Wednesday by Denver TV station KUSA, is limited to self-adhesive versions of the stamps. The moistened version, which is printed in much smaller numbers, does not come with a carrier card.

The government uses a contractor, Ashton Potter Security Printers of Williamsville, N.Y., to print the duck stamps. Levin said she did not know whether the error was made by the government or by the company.

Ashton Potter's president and chief executive, Barry Switzer, said that the company was provided with the wrong telephone number.

"We reproduced the wrong number correctly," he said. "We regret this whole situation happened, but we did our job properly."

They haven't received any complaints yet. I wonder why? :-P

Oil prices continued their decline Friday as flagging US demand and the stronger dollar made the crude lose 8 percent this week.

Light sweet crude for October delivery is down USD 1.39 at USD 106.50.

As oil prices have been falling, the dollar has been gaining steadily against the euro and as crude is traded in dollars around the world, the prices are further lowered.

OPEC meets on September 9, with some expectations the cartel may opt to cut oil prices to prevent a build-up of surplus stocks.

Volatility has ripped through the financial markets with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging 344 points and the US dollar surging to a year to date high against the Euro. With the exception of the dollar’s performance against the Japanese Yen, the greenback’s strength has been universal. In yesterday’s Daily Currency Focus, we said that the dollar could see a near term reversal. That happened briefly with the EUR/USD hitting an intraday high of 1.4545, but once the US stock market started falling, the dollar resumed its rise.Given the drop in equities and bond yields, the only explanation for the divergent move in the currency market is risk aversion. The dollar has once again received a flight to safety boost. The sharp sell-off in carry trades including USD/JPY provides further evidence that risk aversion is behind today’s move.
Canadian dollar rallies on weak economic numbers in the US, staying away from recent lows

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--The Canadian dollar is higher in choppy trading early Friday, shaking off an early indecisive tone after another weak U.S. employment report for August began to weigh on the U.S. dollar globally.

The U.S. dollar was trading at C$1.0629 at 9:46 a.m. EDT (1346 GMT), from C$1.0662 at 8:00 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT) and C$1.0689 late Thursday.

The Canadian dollar received a momentary boost early in Friday's session from news that Canada's labor market rebounded from two successive months of net declines with the creation of just over 15,000 new jobs in August.
