The boss of football's world governing body, FIFA, has said that England has already convinced FIFA that it can host the World Cup in 2018.

The controversial Sepp Blatter has already said that England, which invented the game, has got everything it needs to host the World Cup. Unlike some of the other bidding nations, and unlike South Africa, which hosts this year's World Cup, England wouldn't have to do much stadium building to host matches as the country is full of hi-tech, modern football stadiums which meet the criteria for hosting World Cup games.

However, Blatter has said that there are also strong bids from Russia, Spain/Portugal and Netherlands/Belgium.

England is bidding to host either the 2018 OR the 2022 World Cup. FIFA could choose England to host either one. The other countries bidding to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup are Australia, Belgium & Netherlands, Russia, Portugal & Spain and the United States (which hosted the World Cup only as recently as 1994).

Japan, South Korea (who both joint hosted the 2002 World Cup) and little Qatar are bidding to host the 2022 World Cup.

The 2022 hosts will not be chosen from the same continent as the 2018 hosts.

England hasn't hosted the World Cup since 1966, the only time it has hosted it, whereas the other large European footballing nations - Germany, France, Spain and Italy - have all hosted it more recently and France, Germany and Italy have all hosted it twice.

England have already convinced FIFA that they can host the 2018 World Cup - but Russia's 'remarkable' bid is the latest threat to the Football Association's hopes of bringing football home.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter , who visited Russia earlier this year, has admitted: '(England's bid) is the easiest bid in the world.

Already convinced: FIFA president Sepp Blatter believes England have the framework in place to host the 2018 World Cup

'They have the football already organised. They have everything. England has no problem in delivering a World Cup.

'The other bidders must convince the executive committee. England does not have to convince us.'

However, Blatter insists it is far from cut and dried for the FA, adding: 'For 2018 it will be a European candidate - but apart from England you have the bid from Spain and Portugal, the small but very pleasant bid of the Netherlands and Belgium, and the big Russia also wants to come in.

Back our bid: England legends David Beckham and Gary Lineker throw their weight behind the cause at Wembley, which will host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup Final should England win either bid

'I was there recently and what they presented is remarkable. Russia is not a country but a continent and Russia has big plans to expand.'

FIFA will reveal who will be hosting the 2018 World Cup in December.

Japan pulled out of the bidding to host the 2018 tournament in May amid speculation that it will almost certainly take place in Europe.
