IMO it doesn't make sense that he intended to hurt a linesman. He looked to be in a bit of a fog after getting hit. They should give him a break.

Yeah, I think he should get the benefit of the doubt (if there is any doubt) he may not have been aware of the lineman's proximity until it was too late. Reinstate him!

He raised his stick to the horizontal, and made a deliberate move with his arms to hit the linesman. It wasn't a 'defensive' move at all.

Checking anybody in the back is a dangerous move much less an official. In theory he should get 20 games (the theoretical minimum for hitting an official). Anything less is a break.
