Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is suing a Chinese toy-maker for producing a Nazi doll called 'Bastian'.

The toys, which are due for European release this week, depict a Wehrmacht soldier, complete with Nazi insignia on the soldier's hat.

The 31-year-old
is understood to have contacted his lawyers regarding the dolls, which bear an undeniable likeness to the German international.

Schweinsteiger - the first part of whose name translates into English as "pig" or "swine" - was part of the Germany side which won the 2014 World Cup and is now captain of the national side.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is suing a Chinese toy-maker for producing a Nazi doll called 'Bastian'.

The toys, which are due for European release this week, depict a Wehrmacht soldier, complete with Nazi insignia on the soldier's hat.

The Manchester United midfielder is understood to have contacted his lawyers regarding the dolls, which bear an undeniable likeness to the German international.

The manufacturers responsible for producing the dolls have defended the dolls, calling any perceived likeness 'purely coincidental'.

German newspaper Bild have condemned the toy, with a headline covering the story reading: "Our football hero Bastian Schweinsteiger as a Nazi soldier!"

Bild contacted a representative of the company behind the Bastian range of toys, who dismissed the suggestion the model was based on the Germany captain.

The doll is advertised in a variety of military contexts

"We offer no figures based on the football. The resemblance is purely coincidental," insisted company spokesman Patrick Chan.

"The figure is based on a typical German. We believe most Germans look like this. Bastian is a common name in Germany," he added.

Bastian Schweinsteiger's representatives have so far declined to comment on any action they plan to take, but sources from within Bild insist Schweinsteiger has begun legal proceedings.

Schweinsteiger is the current captain of the German national side

Media lawyer Ulrich Amelung told Bild whether Schweinsteiger had any grounds to sue the toy company over the range of dolls.

"This is a clear violation of the rights of Schweinsteiger.

"The portrayal of him wearing a swastika uniform is a clear case of defamation and insult."

If it was made in Hollywood.

If it was an American film they won't make it true to reality. They'll tinker with the truth a little bit. They'll make the bad guy an Englishman and the person who saves the day by ensuring these dolls don't hit the market will, of course, be a Yank.

If it was an anglash film they'd have fairies and ghosts.

Hollywood eh? Go to admit they make some good movies by reviews anyway
Don't usually go to movies anymore. Sometimes though they turn real events
into pure fantasy to glorify things they didn't do like movies about Ken Taylor
Canadian Ambassador in Iran. CIA got the credit Canadian did the heavy
lifting.
I also like British movies from the past like American ones. Today movies are
not to my taste. But then I quit going to movies when Walter Mathow died
he was funny

As for the Nazi doll ya I think he has a point here the doll
does look exactly like him and puts his image in defamed
company

The best one was that film they made which depicted a group of Americans capturing a German enigma machine during WWII even though, in the real life event it was based on, it was actually the British who captured it.

First of all this is a Wehrmacht doll, of the regular German Army. It is not an SS doll which was a unit of the Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers Party).. and the one most closely associated with Death Camp and Ethnic Cleansing atrocities.

The Wehrmacht were implicated in war crimes.. and its two top officers.. Willhelm Keitel and Alfred Jodl.. were executed for complicitly.. but common soldiers were not for the most part implicated in the worst of Nazi crimes.

And the doll appears to have a fairly generic Germanic face. I'm sure many of the pure wool Master Race.. look like him as well. Bastian a relatively common German name. It's hard to patent a first name or copyright a face.

A lot and probably just one... but that is a guess. I doubt they were able to go door to door.
