Well Project Man,That is a big project that you are suggesting . If you are seeking a finit definition of god ,you can find it in a dictionary. But my advice is to ask directly, straight from the man , go and get the "in-finite answer".That could be your next project.

God is the contrary of Chaos. God is the framework within which we all function. The basic principle of all that exists.

gods are the placeholders man has used to fill in the great gaps in his understanding. Along the way, it became a useful tool to unite and control populations as well.

Simple. A god is a being imagined by humans and given any or all of a long list of possible supernatural or paranormal powers, most commonly omniscience and omnipotence, at least for starters, and infinite measures of human virtues, like kindness, mercy, wisdom, etc.

I believe that God is equal to the Tao and the "definition" remains the same. The God that can be explained is not God.

Excellent, except that I would suggest "A god is a CONCEPT imagined by humans"

The whole concept of a god or God or whatever is simply a way for people to explain why things happen and why things are.

Please read Richard Dawkin's ---"The God delusion"---its all there.

Reading this book finally gave me the impetus to move from agnostic to athiest--and it feels great.

To think that I feel I can with confidence know the answer to one of life's greatest mysteries.

Perhaps you are familiar with the ontological proof of Gods existence by the medieval writter circa 1200 ad--------- St anselm

I wont re-iterate it , but I will provide you with the counter-argument. One can prove that God does not exist by appyling a few lines of philosophical logic.

1) God by defination is the greatest being which can be conceived.

2) God is the creator of the universe.

3) The greatness of this monumental task is inversely proportional to the " handicap " of the creator ie
for a weaker god to have created the universe is certainly more impressive than for a stronger god to have done so

4) The most compromised position from which god could have created the universe is that he totally lacks existence.
ie. the most amazing superlative act of greatness would have been for a nonexistent god to have created the universe.

5) Therefore god does not exist.
