The Vatican Library has begun digitising its priceless collection of ancient manuscripts dating from the origins of the Church.

The first stage of the project will cover some 3,000 handwritten documents over the next four years.

The cost - more than $20m (£12m) - will be borne by Japan's NTT Data technology company.

Eventually, the library says it hopes to make available online all its 82,000 manuscripts.

Knowledge is power, don't believe a word the Vatican tells you. Particularly about the number of documents. If they release only all the junk from the origin of the modern church onward we won't be any wiser.

even the books n stuff in the basement that it hid from people for being too dangerous, controversial, or whatever?

Yes even the stuff detailing the murder rape and pillage of eighteen centuries. They must be counting on rapturing up up and away before the revenge binges start. These people did not invent bu ll **** but they are the reigning masters.
