An elephant named after infamous al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has reportedly trampled five people to death in a village in India.
According to Agence France-Presse, five residents in Assam state were killed after the elephant named Laden rampaged the village on Oct. 29.
Rajen Rabha, a resident of the Goalpara district, told the news agency it wasn’t the first time Laden has wreaked havoc.
“In the past Laden has also attacked our villages and killed people and destroyed our paddy fields,” said Rabha.
Rabha said the elephant was alone when the rampage occurred, noting specifically that forest officials used domesticated pachyderms and drones to watch Laden safely from afar.

Assam state forest minister Par Parimal Shuklabaidya told Agency France-Presse it’s up to wildlife experts to decide what to do with Laden once he’s located.
“There are suggestions that we should tranquillize the animal and take it to forest where there is no human habitation nearby,” said Shuklabaidya.
Indian news outlet Northeast Now reported a drone spotted Laden in the Kankata Reserve on Halloween.
“We have located and identified Laden in the reserve, which is about (10 miles) from Tuesday’s incident site,” a senior officer told Northeast Now. “The jumbo was visible for once or twice and then it went inside the jungle.”
