Anyone else having trouble with Windows 10 and Viruses

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 I have had trouble with viruses despite having McAfee installed. I have just had my third virus, McAfee stops and quarantines it but all sort of malware gets by. No warning that site was infected either, (and no it wasn't porn) just looking for wiring diagrams. In any event I have restored my system back to Windows 8, not sure I want to go back to Windows 10. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

I work for a firm that was going to switch to Windows 10. The Computer Maintenance firm that services our electronics items told us if we switch be prepared for a myriad of problems. So we are not switching yet.

Too early to tell yet, I've been using it less than a month, so being a computer dummy am still feeling my way around. Slowly finding ways of accomplishing sh*t I have to do. It took me about a week to figure out how to shut the computer off and another week to figure out how to turn it back on. :) No impeding viruses so far!

McAfee's a bit of a resource hog too, or at least the last version of it I looked at was, but that was about 4 years ago. I used Kaspersky for years, until I switched to Linux, which doesn't need any 3rd party security software, rather than go to Win10 and be spied upon. I'm a little dubious about Kaspersky 2016 though, a friend of mine who uses it reports that it no longer passes the ShieldsUp test at Gibson Research (www.grc.com), its firewall leaves a lot of ports open. Woody Leonhard (Windows 8.1 For Dummies) claims Win8.1 doesn't need security software either, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are all you need. I'm a little doubtful of that too, but if he's right then the same should be true of Win10.

Been running windows 10 since it was first released. Use the built in virus software and firewall. No problems. No infections. Edge was problematic to begin with but is working fine now. It's installed on 2 desktops and 2 laptops.

I still use Seven and I have resisted every prompt to "update" ...except for my poor daughter's machine that came loaded with eight. Ten is like a big breakthrough after that gobbler.

Now virus software is the virus. Especially McAfee but they are all spammy.
K225, do a fresh reload of your computer and use the windows security crap they have. Keep your computer backed up and don't worry about viruses.
Both of these are free and not spammy.
Adblock Plus is good and Malwarebytes

I abandoned Windows for Apple, at Windows Vista. That ship was showing signs of sinking a long time ago. :lol:

Some people enjoy corporate abuse or something. How else can this be explained.

Windows 7/8/8.2/10 probably wouldn't piss me off so much if it wasn't for the sound issue. There is bugger all for volume from a set of speakers that could blast me out of the room with Windows XP. If the furnace comes on, or the TV's on, I can't hear what's on FRED - whether it's any one of 1800+ saved tunes or a train approaching Youtube crossing. There are something like five volume controls and not one of them works well. My grandkids have it made. They grew up with the monster. Until not all that long ago, except for the Instant Teller, all I had to do with computers was occasionally deliver a load of them. I learned by trial and error - heavy on the errors. I liked XP. I hate this crap. I do know someone who'll download Linux and set up my files.

I run my sound through an old Luxman LV111 amp-picked up a cable that plugs into the back of the computer and then into the CD setting of the amp and I can shake the walls in here with my B&W speakers.

In fact I generally use my Sennheiser earphones-apartment living and all that.
