Royal Navy confronts Russian aircraft carrier group in the English Channel

how to 'cold war'

  • Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia's largest warship, led six other vessels through the Channel last night
  • A Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Dragon, was dispatched from Portsmouth to escort the task group
  • 'Routine' passage comes amid period of heightened tension over troubles in Ukraine
  • It came on the same day Russian president Vladimir Putin oversaw simulation of nuclear missile launches

Must be sad that the once grand Royal Navy is downgraded to "pilot boat" status

I'm thinking that white ball type of structure is just asking for a lock. I notice some of Russia's bigger ships have gone back to WWI paint schemes

I love the link title:

"....Soviet-era ships escorted through the English Channel by state-of-the-art Royal Navy destroyer."

Like that makes any difference and only used for political spin.

It was just an escort mission, yet they still gotta do the chest thumping "look how great our ship is compared to their ships" routine.

It was more like the Russians sent their dated ships for a routine escort to do recon on the Royal Navy's most advanced ship, while not showing any of their own cards other than the ones that were already seen.

Soviet-Era?

Half of the US's active aircraft carriers today are "Soviet-Era"

What ain't broke.....

But still:

In addition to what they already have:

I don't care what the Russian Navy does. If it wants it can start cruising the Bay of Fundy or the Great Lakes. American conservatives and libertarians have no foreign enemies. All of our enemies reside in the United States itself. Btw, Russian long range bombers are now approaching the coast of California. I don't care.

Um.... I think there's a few in the Middle East who aren't too fond of the Conservatives who carpet bombed and occupied their lands for the last decade.

Then again, I could be wrong and there was enough time to pass that they got over all of that.

T'was all in good fun donch'a know.

BTW... Now that "antiquated" Russian fleet knows exactly what image a "stealthy" modern RN destroyer paints - IF they were up to no good

The folks in the Middle East defeated the US. They were victorious. If they have grudges they will attack Washington, DC and New York City. American leftists live in those cities. If those cities disappeared who can say it is a bad thing?

Besides, no one in the Middle East is interested in transforming American conservatives and libertarians out of existence as they American left is attempting to do.

It looks a bit of a rustbucket that aircraft carrier. Much like most of the rest of Russia's underfunded navy.

The Type 45 destroyer is the most powerful air defence destroyer on the planet as well as being the world's most advanced warship. That Russian rustbucket would have stood no chance had it tried anything. If the RN had sunk it Russia would have had no carriers left.

How Putin's walking all over us: Six years ago EDWARD LUCAS was branded a scaremonger for warning of the danger posed to the West, but today the threat's more alarming than ever

As a naked display of awesome military firepower, its message could not have been clearer.Yesterday, Russia marked Victory Day, the anniversary of its defeat of Nazi Germany, in Moscow with a parade overseen by President Putin, who watched as tanks, assault helicopters and line upon line of troops reinforced his bellicose behaviour of recent weeks.

Sunk it? For what being on an Ocean you don't think it should be on?? You don't get it yet do you, it isn't about who has the newest boats it is about what you do with them. It is about what you do with them can be gleaned by what you do in other situations. For instance would a Nation, yours specifically, endorse siege like measures in other areas other than escorting a Russian warship when it could have attacked with all it's weapons before it could have been stopped. Round two would not be needed. They either had no such plans or they were scared off, I think we both know what the answer is to that question. I'm going to base view on that the UK would have known about and encouraged the stopping of the river to disadvantage Crimea and no other reason is remotely possible if advance payments were to be made for the water that will eventually flow around the dam or they (British approved Government forces) would stop it as long as possible and then release a mini flood that would ruin fields and/or other items needed by society. If that is typical of NATO coming to town (give it up without a fight or we will cause terror forever) that more and more people will resist those types of moves. The only real move the West has is social media and extensive propaganda, what bigger sign do you need to determine which side is running 'rust buckets'. Starting up and failing and getting up again is something that is needed if you are to grow up. Britain never failing to retain control of her colonies is via underhanded methods when if she had let go she would have matured on the world stage, instead they look for the 22nd century of the way to create a newer and bigger reservation system with Gaza and thye West Bank being the current model that should be standardized in all nations where the State become more important that the collective.
When you make comments that you are great and everybody else is an idiot it appears to the world that you are playing games (beating Russia in a war would be child's play example) that only children play. Children that have never skinned a knee do not make the best bike riding instructors unless you think, 'Don't ever fall.' is practical advice.

Suppose they unloaded all the aircraft and overloaded it with weapons that look this (300km unstoppable) Would GB be shutting down the Stock Market for the rest of the week or for the rest of history? Your call ....... keep it open (allowing Russian Companies in) or look like Pearl Harbor

Nope.

If the Russians fired one of those poxy missiles of theirs and there was a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer within SIXTY miles they'd be shot down, considering that a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer is capable of tracking and shooting down an object the size of a CRICKET BALL travelling at Mach 2 - twice the speed of sound - and is capable of doing that to several objects at the same time and from sixty miles away. So the fact that those Russkie missiles travel 300km per hour - 186mph in Queen's English - does not make the British quake in their boots.

The Type 45's main weapon is the Sea Viper missile. It can reach speeds of Mach 4 to Mach 5 - speeds which make those Russian missiles you mentioned look like flying snails - in only two seconds and carry out flight manoeuvres three times more severe than a fighter pilot can withstand. Each Type 45 can carry 48 Sea Viper missiles .

If there were ever to be an "Armaggedon" scenario, it could fire them all in just two seconds.

It wouldn't be Goodnight Vienna to the British. It'd be Goodnight Vienna to the Russkies. So I would advise the Russians not to pick a fight with the British.

It's my call - and my call is that the British would win. No Russian missiles would get anywhere near British ships or British land. We'd shoot them down.
