One of Canada’s most notorious child molesters has been re-arrested once again, and fresh sex-related charges are pending.

Gordon Stuckless, who spent years in prison for offences committed while he worked at Maple Leaf Gardens, was to have appeared in court at Old City Hall Friday morning in connection with a new batch of charges laid in February.

Instead he was arrested at his home and taken to the downtown 52 Division police station, and his court date was put over.

Convicted in 1997 of multiple sex assaults on boys while he was an assistant equipment manager at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens from 1969 to 1988, Mr Stuckless, 64, was charged in February with six counts of indecent assault on a male, assault and possession of a weapon or imitation weapon.

Those charges stem from a string of alleged assaults on young boys during the 1970s.

Toronto police say two adult men stepped forward to allege that Mr. Stuckless sexually assaulted them several times, when they were aged 11 and 13. He was volunteering at a Toronto community centre and sports clubs at the time.

Police allege the assaults took place at those and other locations and have been urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

The newest charges, to be laid Friday, also arise from offences allegedly committed years ago, a police source said.

Details are to be announced later in the day.

Mr. Stuckless pleaded guilty at his 1997 trial to sexual abuse against 24 males ranging in age from 11 to 15, in a series of crimes encompassing more than 500 incidents.

He was initially sentenced to two years less a day in a provincial jail, but the sentence was appealed and extended to five years.

Mr. Stuckless was paroled from Kingston Penitentiary in 2001 after serving two-thirds of the five-year term.

His first sentence was widely criticized as being too lenient, and was said to have been instrumental in the suicide of one of his victims, Martin Kruze, who at age 34 jumped to his death off the Bloor Viaduct, just three days after it was imposed.

Mr. Kruze was the first victim to have stepped forward.

Two former Maple Leaf Gardens colleagues, usher John Paul Roby and equipment manager George Hannah, were also implicated in what the Crown described as a pedophile sex ring.

Mr. Roby was also convicted and died in a federal prison, but Mr. Hannah escaped prosecution, having died in 1984 before Mr. Kruze spoke up.

After Mr. Stuckless was rearrested in February, police said the new complainants had been too traumatized to speak up when he was first investigated and charged in the 1990s.

Criminal Justice.

I'd rather have heard he died in a car fire, alone somewhere.

When do the victims get justice?

So much for the "a guy like that'll never making it out of prison alive" theory.

Canada MUST get serious about punishment for people like this. They do NOT get better, and giving such minimal sentences just makes things worse for the victims.

2nd offense should equal Life in prison with no possibility of parole. Multiple convictions at the same trial (meaning the person is found guilty of multiple offenses) should also equal Life without parole.

But no, we have to "understand" and "rehabilitate" those criminals.

I don't know whether to rage, or puke... it is just beyond sad. How it is even possible to come up with such a sentence is beyond me. Who do we even contact to ask such things? A man killed himself over this and the impact on countless lives cannot be measured and it is worth five years and you don't even have to do the five my friend...off you go.

I will never, never understand why in the hell we do not lock someone who has preyed on children 500 times away for life. Why do we even contemplate the notion of letting them out?

I don't understand how sentences get put in place or how juries arrive at them. I don't know enough about Canadian law. But when I retire, I would like to make it one of my hobbies to see how changes can be made.

If he had been in gen-pop he most certainly would have been killed a long time ago. Scum like this are placed in segregation, so as to not risk their well-being from being punctured by a well-placed shiv.

If they accidentally stick him in gen-pop after he gets his new sentence, you would see how quick he would reap "prison justice".

Another perversion of justice.

Statutory rape is not child molestation.

Paying an underage boy with things like hockey sticks, tickets, bags, autographs and so on, makes the underage boys prostitutes.

Since this happened before the YOA, why were the not charged with prostitution?

Jailed Gordon Stuckless hit with new sex charges
By Terry Davidson, Toronto Sun

TORONTO - Infamous Maple Leaf Gardens pedophile Gordon Stuckless has been hit with new sex charges.
Toronto Police announced Wednesday that Stuckless, who used his position as a Gardens equipment manager to abuse boys between 1969 and 1988, faces 19 new charges in relation to three boys allegedly assaulted between 1978 and 1984.
“I had always prepared Mr. Stuckless that even though he has already faced ... proceedings about this, there is a flipside to the coin, (and that) anybody who has suffered at his hands certainly should have their voices heard,” Stuckless’s lawyer, Ari Goldkind, told the Sun.
“I will certainly be wanting to find out more information ... about these gentlemen and their story, and whether it matches up (with) Mr. Stuckless’s track record.”
Stuckless is currently serving time after being sentenced last summer to six and a half years for sexually abusing 18 boys at the Gardens. Prior to that, in 1997, he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting 24 boys inside the hallowed former hockey arena and was handed five years. He was paroled in 2001.
He was recently brought from his cell at Joyceville penitentiary in Kingston to Toronto South Detention Centre for booking on the new charges, his lawyer said.
He will appear at Old City Hall court on Thursday morning.
Stuckless is charged with four counts of buggery, four of indecent assault, six of gross indecency, three of sexual assault, and two of threatening death in relation to claims made by the three men that have come forward.

How do we know they didn't consent?

Legally I don't think they can consent under 16.

But a nice approach, keep trying him for a handful of charges as he is about to be released from prison. He will get a longer sentence than if they did them all at once and served them all concurrently.

Gardens predator's prison term boosted to 10 years

Ontario’s highest court has locked up Gardens sex predator Gordon Stuckless for 10 years, tossing out the 6½ year sentence imposed in June 2016.
Justice Mara Greene three years ago imposed a six-year sentence — after deducting six months for living under a restrictive bail — on Stuckless for molesting 18 boys decades ago.
Greene’s decision was jeered by Stuckless’ victims and some applauded the Ontario Court of Appeal decision released Tuesday that struck down Green’s sentence and replaced it with a 10-year term.
Greene’s sentence was “manifestly unfit” and “unresponsive to the call for exemplary sentences in cases of prolonged sexual abuse of multiple victims,” the split decision stated.
“Stuckless is a sexual predator. The magnitude of his offending is staggering and the harm … caused is incalculable,” wrote Justice Grant Huscroft.
“All the victims suffered terribly at his hands. Virtually all of them met Stuckless when he occupied a position of trust and that trust was shattered,” wrote Huscroft.
“Many of the boys stopped playing sports because of him, and hockey in particular — the game they loved, but a game he had used as part of his grooming strategy.”
The 70-year-old former Maple Leaf Gardens employee, hockey and lacrosse coach, and teacher’s assistant pleaded guilty to 100 charges in 2014 and was later convicted of two counts of gross indecency against two of the 18 victims.
“He abused victims in places that should have been safe havens for young boys … their homes, at school and at sporting complexes,” said Greene.

Stuckless — who committed these offences between 1965 and 1988 — has already served a six-year sentence for violating 24 boys, including Martin Kruze, between 1969 and 1988.
Kruze killed himself after Stuckless received a sentence of two years-less-a-day sentence, which was later increased to the equivalent of six years in 1998.
“We feel a 10-year sentence is a step in the right direction and sets a good precedent in Canada,” said Kruze’s brother Gary.
“I know my late brother Martin is smiling down on us today feeling the same way.”
In dissent, Justice Paul Rouleau disagreed with the majority decision and dismissed the Crown’s appeal.
The six-year sentence balances both mitigating factors such as his remorse, guilty plea and rehabilitation and aggravating factors of the “truly horrendous crimes.”
