The Queen Visits a Primary School: The Court Circular

Her Majesty Visits St. Pancras Church of England Primary School

In the wake of student protests at the Palace of Westminster , Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland made a visit to the St. Pancras Church of England Primary School. Her Majesty was received there by Sir David Brewer C.M.G. , Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (one of the Queen's representatives), and by Counsellor Jonathan Simpson , the Mayor of the London Borough of Camden , and by Ms. Alice Aharon, the Head Teacher of the school.

The Queen met with staff, before touring the school, accompanied by Ms. Sheila McCalla-Gordon, the Executive Head of the school. During the tour, Her Majesty visited classrooms, seeing lessons in progress, and meeting the children. The students also had the chance to perform for Her Majesty, treating the Queen to some music and dancing. It's fantastic to see, even during the massive education controversy not yet resolved in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland , that the Queen wishes to lend Her Majesty's patronage to educational institutions, drawing attention, thereby, to the importance--and the stakes--of the debate at hand.

Investiture at Buckingham Palace

Now, since Her Majesty was away from the palace, Buckingham Palace reports that His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales K.G. , K.T. , G.C.B. , O.M. , P.C. , S.O.M. , A.K. , Q.S.O. , G.C.L. , A.D.C.(P.) , C.D. , the heir to the throne, held an Investiture in the Queen's place. Since the Queen is the United Kingdom's head of State, and its Fount of Honour, only Her Majesty--or an authorised representative--can bestow State honours.

This is much the same case in Canada . The Queen, as Canada's head of State, is the Canadian Fount of Honour and the head of the Canadian honours system; the Governor General , as the Queen's representative, carries out these functions. The regular investitures at Rideau Hall for the Order of Canada , and other high State honours, are synonymous with the investitures held at Buckingham Palace.
