Where do you see yourself in 2020?

Night Safari, thank you so very much for that educational link! I only read a short part of it, but enough to get the convincing proof.
You must be a scientist yourself perhaps? Or someone with a great deal of interest and knowledge. I'm sure you have Dexter convinced and converted now!

Did you know or read about the prediction half a century ago by Edgar Cayce of the "uprighting" of earth's axis? I always thought it would happen in one gigantic jolt! Thank God, it's slow and gentle, at least sofar.

The night sky is one great illusion to us, because of the millions of light years the light of the stars needs to travel to be visible by us little specks of dust, we keep looking at something that, in reality, isn't even there anymore!!

The ecliptic plane was initially tilted at 23.5 degrees south. And with the Earth's spin axis come the resulting seasonal variations in the amount of sunlight received on the Earth's surface.( Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter)

If the axis "has not shifted", as you indicate, then our present damaged ozone layer, harmful UV rays, irratic weather and climate patterns, etc., "do not exist" and we have been dupped with a colosal hoax!

Or, YOU ARE RIGHT, and everyone else must either be wrong, dreaming, lying, hallucinating, or completely brainwashed except for yourself.

Yes, I did. Interesting that you mentioned it. In Chapter 5 of: "Book II- The Earth Re-born", Cayce's Prophecies predict a dramatic shift and new orbit for our Earth.

Unfortunately Spirituality has no rational concept in main stream scientific research. And I personally feel it shouldn't be strictly academic. But if it "can't be proven on black and white or actually seen, it doesn't exist."

You don't appear to understand the concepts you're tossing around here. The ecliptic plane is the 2-dimensional surface defined by the earth's orbit around the sun. All the planets in the solar system define similar planes, all within a few degrees of the ecliptic. The sun's apparent path across the sky follows the ecliptic, and if you project the plane out onto the stars it runs through the middle of the zodiac, which is defined as a band 9 degrees to either side of it. The earth's rotational axis is tilted 23½ degrees to the plane of the ecliptic, which is what defines the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn on the planet. They are the points farthest north and south of the equator where the sun can appear directly overhead. If the earth's rotational axis had shifted by 26 degrees to 49 degrees with respect to the ecliptic, as you're claiming, the apparent positions of all stars, planets, the sun, and the moon, would also have shifted by 26 degrees.

I have a little astronomy program called Skyglobe that shows the night sky on my monitor here based on the coordinates I give it for my location. It predates this supposed axis shift, so what it shows me ought to be different by 26 degrees from what I see when I step into my backyard at night and look up. It's not. You're wrong.

I wasn't aiming to be "precise" or begin an intensive, lengthy astronomy/geology lecture here, as the main question at hand was whether the Earth's axel has or hasn't shifted. Obviously you and your "little Skyglobe program" are never wrong!! Besides, the context of this original post has changed quite dramatically.I refuse to have a battle of witts with an unarmed person.

LOL.... oh wow. You're coming into an argument with one of the sharpest scientific minds I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, and you're calling him unprepared because you got some bad info and can't (or won't) back up your assertions. I have to say, you've made my day, because that was one of the best funnies I've read in a while.

Axel? Witts? Is English your first language? And you're not aiming to be precise? You've made some fairly precise claims, like the earth's axial tilt being 49 degrees now, which it obviously is not if you have any observational skills at all. Evidently you don't. My point, which you obviously missed, was that my little Skyglobe program shows me what the night sky should look like from my latitude and longitude at a time and date I specify, and it's based on the assumption that the earth's axial tilt is about 23½ degrees from the ecliptic. It exactly matches what I see when I step out into my yard at night and look up. Therefore, it is right, and I am right, the observations match the predictions, and you are wrong. This is not a battle of wits, or even witts--and even if it were you'd be way over your head--it's about objectively verifiable empirical facts about the way things are.

But it appears I really don't need to defend myself against your follies, my respected Internet friends karrie and talloola have risen to the occasion. Thank you my friends, and blessings upon your households.

None of this has anything to do with where any of us see ourselves in 2020 though, so if you want to discuss this further, start a thread in the science forum about axial tilt. I caution you though: you'll get pounded. If anybody bothers to respond.

Hi, Dexter;
I will admit right from the start that I have no knowledge of my own, I depend on someone elses studies.
Your logical explanation seems to make sense to me, BUT what I read yesterday in Safari's link sounded also convincing. What am I to believe now?

I've been on this earth for a while, but never heard of any big change of the earth's position. Of course, if it is a very minute change over a long time period, we might not notice it for a while. Scientists might with their instruments, and isn't that what Safari is trying to tell us?

As I said, I don't know any of this stuff, but am now curious as to who of the two of you has it right?

The guy he's linking to is prone to indulge in imagination. Here is something else he wrote about :

Quote:

I do know that in addition to the projects listed in the UK document, that our country is seeding the air… I had thought the Chem Trails theory to be hokey… but I saw them myself the other day and guess what I found on the Official State of Texas website? They have an entire section of the official TX website showing the rules for weather modification and forms for applying for a weather modification license. No kidding… so this is real. I saw them doing it myself as they turned a clear sky into a cloudy one, less that a week ago… and they were not using crop dusters. These were fast moving, USAF jets at about 45,000 ft.

Here is the link to the State of TX website, licensing division for weather modification. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it. So apparently, they are trying to cool down the planet.. but if some of those rumors about them using powdered aluminum are true… we are all in serious health jeopardy. No wonder the asthma levels and respiratory infections have gone sky high.
http://www.license.state.tx.us/weather/weatherrules.htm#7911

There is no reference to anyone "trying to cool the planet" that I can see.

I do. If I'm wrong, there would be obvious effects that every amateur and professional astronomer on the planet would have noticed and it would have been front page stuff for every newspaper and magazine in the world. You'd have heard about it before now.

Yes, I would think so. A 26 degree change is not that minuscule. So, let's agree, for now, you are right!

I most certainly agree with you on that now. I do however owe you an enormous apology!! I had come across some facinating reading material which did include the website I posted. I was so conviced that these "facts" were indeed correct, I lost sight of everything else and never once thought otherwise.I now realize my own common sense should have concluded what most everyone else did and has.
My "typo's?" I admit my emotions got the better of me. Finding myself with both feet in my mouth, I hope you can forgive me please. I am truly sorry for any personal insults my posts may have caused you.

Hi Dexter and Safari;
I took a break from politics and searched the web for E. Cayce's predictions.
Following is his "shifting of the poles" story:
Quote:

Foresaw a shift of the earth's poles around the millennium In the late 1920's and early 1930's, Cayce was the first to describe the concept of the shifting of the pole as a result of the crust of the Earth moving independently from the core of the Earth to bring different a surface area over the spin axis. During the past 30 years, this concept has received more and more attention by geophysicists, some of whom now seriously argue that the crust does move independently. Some geophysicists now also argue that the best way to explain a variety of paleo sea-level and other data is that it moves and shifts fairly frequently and more rapidly than previously imagined.
Cayce predicted changes to the earth surface to begin some time between 1958 and 1998. The cause of these dramatic earth changes will be the shift in the world's magnetic poles around the year 2000 . Cayce predicted that when this pole shift occurs it would begin reversals in the world's climate so that:

"..where there has been a frigid or semi-tropical climate, there will be a more tropical one, and moss and fern will grow."
Cayce's prediction of a pole shift occurred in 1998. According to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, in 1998 something changed the earth's gravitational field which moved the magnetic poles closer together. The NASA article explained that as the ice on the poles melted, ocean currents moved water toward the equator, which factors researchers believe to be partly responsible, in conjunction with shifts in atmospheric patterns, for this ongoing shift in the earth's magnetic field. This NASA finding affirms Cayce's prediction of a pole shift.

Hmm.... moss and fern grows already now in my garden, especially in the shady and more damper spots! He is actually talking about the magnetic pole shift, not the earth's axis. Somewhere I did read about him saying the earth's axis will upright itself.

I think that would seriously suck out loud. I'm not particularly anti-American, at least no more than any thoughtful Canadian is likely to be (and whatever "anti" I have is directed at the government, not the people), but I don't want to be one of them.

All along the 49th parallel the border is bulging with the force of 300 million people,
leaning against our 30 some odd million, can you imagine, if 'one' of our provinces decided
to become part of the u.s., it would be like a 'hole in a dyke', and all of a sudden that
province would be bulging as well, and 'full' of people, no way man, never, I love all of our room to roam, lets keep it that way.

You're at least no more anti-American than any thoughtful Canadian is likely to be and furthermore whatever unquantified "anti" you do entertain is directed at the government and not the innocent people and you don't want to be one of them. hmmm ah hmmm yes eh
You think it would seriously"suck out loud" and you don't want to be one of them.
This is a serious departure from our official Canadian policy regarding our illustrious heroic patriotic benevolent best allies and niegbours, this sort of soft devotion to the great American coalition of right honourable western free democratic enlightened nations is what's causing all the problems on the planet right now as we ponder where we'll be in 2020 a time that does not exist in a world that does not exist, none of us can reliably predict where we'll be two miniutes or two days from now. It'll be a surprise.Pleasent I hope, but hope is religious nonesence and faith is powerless in the face of cosmology. Ain't it?

You have me completely confused! Who are you referring to in your quote? The "Lester Russell Brown" in my first web link certainly didn't write what you quoted. Both web sites I posted have nothing to do with your post nor the link outlining the "Rules, Regulations, and Licensing Procedures" for weather modifications and climate research in Texas.

Did you actually read either one of my posted links? It appears we are discussing two completely different topics. Could you kindly clarify?

I hope this will not happened:
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing...

I think the year 2020 will be like this:
The entire world is one family. The framework of Altruistic Communism ultimately encircle the entire world in an equal standard of living to everybody. However, the actual process is a gradual one. Each nation whose majority accepts these basic elements practically, and who have already been brought up to bestow upon their fellow person and will have a sound cause for fuel, may enter the framework of the international communism right away.
All the nations that have already gone under the framework of international communism will have equal standards of living. The surplus of a wealthy or a diligent nation will improve the living standards of the failing or poor nation in raw materials and productive means.
The economic and religious form that guarantees communism will be one for all nations. It means that the religious form of all nations must first obligate its members to bestowal upon their fellow person in the form of “Love thy friend as thyself.” The aim is that the gifted and the lucky shall not enjoy society more than the backward members. This will be the collective religion for all nations that will come under the framework of the Altruistic Communism, excluding religious forms that do not concern the economic life.
On other matters of comportment, each will have his or her own form, which should not be changed. In other words: except for the matter of “Love thy friend as thyself,” each nation may follow its own religion and tradition, and one must not interfere with another.
There should be no differences between black and white, civilized and primitive, just as among individuals of the same nation. There must be no discrimination among individuals, a nation, or all the nations of the world. As long as there are differences, war will not end.
Altruistic Communism will finally annul the brute-force regime completely, for “every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” It should not surprise us, as it was unbelievable that children could be educated by explanation, but only through the cane. However, today, most people have accepted that and reduce the forceful rule on children...
All this and more else are Kabbalah's offer for a future society.
