The doors to Canada's embassy in Egypt have been closed due to security concerns as violent demonstrations continue over a trailer for a film that insults Islam and its founder the prophet Muhammed.

The move comes after protesters stormed the U.S. embassy in Yemen earlier on Thursday, and a rocket attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya on Wednesday, which killed their American ambassador and three diplomats.

Chrystiane Roy, a Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, says the Canadian embassy in Egypt is a close neighbour of the American mission, which has been the focus of clashes between angry protesters and police for three straight days.
