TORONTO — Canada’s largest school board is considering a drastic change to its practice of steering high schoolers toward either “academic” or “applied” courses in an effort to remove barriers and offer equal educational opportunities to all students.
(In other words- our kids are now going to be dealing with LOWER academic standards and compromised education thanks to so many kids of immigrants- brought in by LIE-berals simply for the sake of buying their votes- FAILING in school! There is a disturbingly large minority in Canada that equates success in school with selling out to whites- and that group includes lots of Cdn natives!)
The Toronto District School Board’s director of education, John Malloy, has suggested an overhaul of the policy — known as streaming — that requires students in Grades 9 and 10 to choose whether to take courses such as math, science and English in the more theoretical, university-geared academic stream, or the hands-on, practical “applied” stream.
(LIE-berals think it looks bad to have Asian and White kids- whose parents have provided them with motivation and discipline to do well- in university geared education stream while black kids, natives and some others such as Portuguese- too often slump into technical blue collar streams- in spite of the reality of black apathy towards education!)
“Our data suggests that when students are studying at the academic level in Grades 9 and 10 their chances for graduation grow and their opportunities after they leave us are better,” Malloy said, adding that if given the right support in the classroom, almost any student can thrive at the academic level.
“Our goal is to have the majority of students in academic courses and try to minimize the use of applied courses in all schools, and in some schools there will be none.”
(HOGWASH! Teacher union Hogs cannot overcome parental propaganda picked up at home! Teachers are the public face of alleged white privilege and are too often viewed as the ENEMY! It does not help that teacher Hog unions are so greedy they have alienated most of the public- including whites!)
Nearly one fifth of Grade 9 and 10 students took a majority of their courses in the applied stream last school year, the board said.
(AS I KNOW from others- IT IS POSSIBLE to switch over from applied blue collar courses over to academic courses- IF THE KID IS SUFFICIENTLY MOTIVATED- and that leaves out to many black kids in Toronto!!!!! But the solution is NOT to poison the white kids and Asian kids education in order to hide black under performance and failure!!!)
Streaming into academic and applied courses has been standard practice at all public Ontario school boards since 1999. But Malloy’s proposal — which was to be considered by a school board committee Wednesday evening before being debated by board trustees on Feb. 7 — would require schools to root out more subtle forms of streaming that he says occur as early as kindergarten.
(Streaming can never be fully eliminated- it is a simple as putting the smart and well disciplined kids in one class and the undisciplined dunces in another! Sadly our educrats see nothing wrong with killings streaming- they figure they are IMMUNE to the social and economic consequences of producing a generation of dunces!)
“We don’t want to put (students) on a pathway too soon that moves from a struggle to read to a special education program that might then lead to an applied program,” Malloy said.
(Lack of real discipline in our school system ensures that the dunces drag down those around them while disciplined and properly motivated kids can forge ahead- if social justice warriors are kept away from them! And teacher unions have a hand in this de-streaming- they want each teacher to have the same number of dunces in each class so some teachers do not look like failures for their inability to motivate the dunces! And union equality is also involved- why should one teacher get to deal with the well disciplined class while another teachers deals with rowdy morons- so unions want to mix in the good with the bad for their own reasons even though it will damage some kids education! There is NO good reason to run our school system for the convenience of LIE-berals, or their bigoted pressure group allies or for the civil service union Hogs either! Most Cdn parents want their kids to receive the best possible education and de-streaming caters only to the dunces and saves LIE-berals from possible embarrassment over immigration choices that HARM our country!)
A study led by York University education professor Carl James, released last year, found that black students in the TDSB are twice as likely to be enrolled in applied courses, as compared to kids from other racial backgrounds.
“It could be because of disillusionment (black students feel) with the education process, the alienation they feel from school, the fact that the curriculum might not speak to them in ways that engages them effectively,” said James, who welcomed the idea of limiting streaming in Grades 9 and 10.
(Certainly black kids are often disillusioned and why not? They live in a society where LIE-beral govt bombards them with messages about our “systemic racist” society and blames all black problems on whites! LIE-berals think nothing of smearing cops who are simply doing their jobs by arresting criminals of ALL ethnic flavours- it s NOT a cop problem that so many blacks are criminals yet LIE-berals want black kids to think the problem IS with cops! Black kids live in a school system DOMINATED by hypocrites and LIARS and grossly selfish union Hogs! And apparently black parents are unwilling or unable to counter the LIE-beral Fake News- no wonder some kids are discouraged!)
James found that, often, black students were being pushed into the applied stream by teachers or guidance counsellors, raising questions about racial bias among school staff.
(Too bad that in their rush to condemn white society, LIE-berals NEVER ASK if the teachers might be right about their estimates of some black students ability!)
“We as a community and a society have to reassess how we … evaluate students and measure what we consider their intellectual abilities and skills,” James said.
(The ONLY practical measure of a students ability MUST BE the scores honestly obtained on EQAO standardized literacy testing! Anything less is political meddling for the sake of buying votes from failures- affirmative action efforts have been a complete failure in United States as those who benefited from the preferential treatment came to be seen as carrying credentials they were NOT entitled to! And then there is the failure rate of black kids who have been let into collegs simply because they are black- without being able to pass standard literacy tests- so they quickly fail and drop out- with LIE-berals whining yet again about discrimination! How can black people have self respect when LIE-berals insist blacks need special protections due to their inadequacies?)
A handful of TDSB schools have already eliminated streaming in some grades.
(In some schools it makes sense to dispose of steaming- but this presumes all the kids in a specific school are having equally difficult times! People with similar educational abilities CAN be lumped together without hampering outcomes- but LIE-berals MUST understand that educational standards that are acceptable in blue collar Parkdale ARE NOT acceptable in middle or upper class white collar North Toronto!)
And students who may have normally been in applied courses, or who have special education needs can take an additional “learning strategies” class, to help them with literacy and numeracy skills.
(Yes- summer school classes CAN HELP kids who find the maturity and discipline to seek higher standards! But de-streaming HIDES those higher standards from our kids! They will not have the frame of reference to know how badly they may be doing- until they get out into the world and start competing for scarce jobs- and LIE-beral weasel words blaming white privilege will not help that situation!)
“At the end of the day when it comes to those challenging courses, the maths and sciences, a lot of kids struggle not necessarily because they’re not capable but because of the way it’s being taught and because not everyone learns the same way,” said Maddie Di Muccio, president of the Society for Quality Education Canada advocacy group.
(Child centred learning- with its lack of interest in ensuring kids learn the basics like multiplication tables and its deliberate avoidance of setting standards of proper spelling and grammar by repetition - has been proven as a failure- yet Cdn teachers cling to that failed system apparently because it is easier for the teachers than the more effective rote learning!)
“It’s not bad necessarily to have that option of going for applied because it’s in those courses that are easier that you learn, ‘maybe I really do like this (subject) and maybe I want to be more challenged,”‘ she added.
(There is another cherished LIE-beral MYTH!!! That learning is enjoyable! Real learning- of ANY SORT- is hard work- just ask any kids learning to ice skate or develop the skills to beat another level in a video game or the first time! To learn a new skill or achieve real progress in an academic setting is just as difficult in its own way as learning to ice skate!)
(And educators are conveniently FORGETTING how they got saddled with EQAO testing!!!!! Concerned parents who got a clear look at how little their kids were really learning FORCED standardized testing on the lazy Hogs running our schools! And now the Hogs are doing everything in their power to turn the clock back to a more IGNORANT and union Hog friendly time! One has only to think of the enraged parent who wrote a letter to a local paper- about 20 years ago- with this complaint: “my sons spelling is terrible and there seems to be no effort being made to improve it”? The teachers response was: “it doesnt matter- your son is intelligent so he will probably have a secretary to correct the spelling for him”! And educators wonder why the public gets uneasy every time LIE-berals and their Hog allies try to “IMPROVE” our education system? )
