Parliament- Security measures.

If a planned attack had occurred, Canada would have seen mass murder.

This could have easily caused a decapitation of Canada's govt.

Yet by luck, pure luck, we did not.

Having the open door that was in place is no longer, should never have been acceptable since we went into Afghanistan.

What security measures do you think parliament should have.

2nd- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier- as this was a target- security should be assigned, Soldiers at the memorial- 7-24- 365 - with MP's providing armed, but discreet security.

Really, a "decapitation" eh. Everything would have gone to hell in a hand basket. ROFLMFAO....... While having the entire Conservative caucus wiped out would have caused short term problems, at no time would it have "decapitated" the government. No one, ten, a hundred, three hundred and eight, or even four hundred and thirteen men and women killed would cause the collapse of this country. Canada is far more than those elected and appointed sitting in the House and Senate.

How little faith, you so obviously have, in this Country.

A friend from the Legion said on Monday there will be an update on the regs about soldiers being armed on duty and off.

Did I state for how long. And yes it would have cause major problems. Do you think they would have been easily addressed in a few days?
Harper was in a caucus room and Security had him in a closet for a period of time.
They then left and were outside the locked doors.
They have been replaced. Always stay with the primary.

Oh and I have faith in my Country.

Politicians take a few months off in the summer and nobody seems to miss them. The bureaucrats run the day to day operations of the country. The country would not be decapitated in any way shape or form.

Governing would fall to whoever the surviving MPs chose. An election would probably be called. Trudeau probably would have won by default. ha.

I think the guard was the target given the guy left immediately after shooting one of them. Ive walked by that memorial hundreds, perhaps thousands of times. It seems random when they do have ceremonial guards there. Most of the time there is no one. Or at least no one visible. So if they are going to have guards, have them, but arm them.

We keep going to all these extra measures to ensure security
One of the first measures is to ensure the people coming here
are not criminals and if they are we deport them immediately
no more of this nonsense with endless hearings just put them
on a plane or ship and goodbye.
We classify them as refugees or displaced persons or and the
list goes on. First if you have no papers you go back on to the point
on the ticket you had. Refugees wouldn't come here if they knew
they were on the next plane home.
If they are from a country they are not happy with turn them over to
those authorities you would see a decrease in traffic coming in.
For those wanting to come here do a serious check on them and if
they have infractions the answer is no not yes after a hundred appeals
at the public's expense.
There are all kinds of wonderful people who came here and when they
got citizenship they went home when trouble breaks out where they are
we are supposed to get them out
Immigration laws must change those coming here to start a new life
do so as fellow citizens those who break the rules through them out and
strip them of citizenship like they did with former Nazis and other criminals.
Home grown terrorists have two option here prison and isolation for life
or shoot them as traitors. Remember capital punishment is no longer an
option for legal purposes but for military justice is remains I believe and
should Terrorists should be treated as traitors and they should be shot

So far no one who has come here in that way has attacked us, so we apparently are doing ok on that front.

It does not. It was removed in the 90s.

If this attack had been competently carried out by a well armed shooter who knew the layout of the building and the lack of security things would have been much worse. Even the people who work there know the status quo isnt an option.

Thats quite unlikely to happen. One or two gunmen, armed and knowing the layout and security? That could happen any day.

Could it? So far, all we have had is a crazy. How long has Canada been around? I think the chances of your scenario, aren't that much greater than mine.

That's right. No need to increase security any where. This was one lone nut case.

That being said, I do take ISIS threat against Canada seriously. What I say is take the fight to them, we don't sit on our fat a$$es waiting and worrying what they are going to do. Go wipe the sand with their collective a$$es.

Guards who observe someone may be carrying or trying to hide a rifle. A Winchester is a pretty stiff rod

No soldier should be unarmed any longer. (that isn't saying they should have the safety off either)

Yeah, really carrying it to an extreme. And you called what I posted over the edge.
Security at Parliament was lax to non existent. Even harpers RCMP handlers fuked up and were replaced. Does that say anything.

I mentioned a planned attack. You then go off on a tangent with nukes.
Well if that was the case nukes would have been flying all over.
Try to get real.

Yup, kinda figured. Too bad for you. Not surprising though. You do have a habit of shooting from the hip without getting the full story.

There is no evidence that there would be a planned attack that would result in the casualties outlined in the OP.

All we really need is an extended perimeter and guards on the leaders.

How about we put the Politicians close to the doors and the soldiers can kick back in the inner rooms until the sound of gunfire is heard. That would be saving the most valuable Canadians to fight and it might moderate what comes out of the Politicians traps.
