Except Canada was there. We had three frigates and a destroyer as part of multinational Task Force 151, in which the Canadians were in command. Canadians also worked at US Central Command in Qatar. Plus troops and officers that were on exchange with US and British forces. CAF pilots under NORAD flew combat missions into Iraq with the USAF E-3 Sentry. CAF pilots also flew C-17 supply runs into Iraq.

Kind'a like Vietnam. Officially we weren't involved. Unofficially we sure as hell were. And while other Canadian Forces were originally in Iraq for advisory and training purposes when Harper sent them, Trudeau upped the ante and allowed them to be used in direct combat, particularly in support of the Peshmerga.

Having said that, I agree that we shouldn't have been there at all. Hardly makes me a leader though. "Oh gee, I had an independent thought. Vote for me this fall".

Actually, I found out much later, that my brother was there in an "advisory" capacity when he was in the CF. He hated it!

People forget there was a close provincial election going on in Quebec, and the citizens were dead set against going to Iraq. Chretien didn't want to offend the Pepsi's and tarnish the Liberal brand...which is the only reason he chose not to follow the Yanks into Iraq.

Face it- Chretien had HIT THE DEBT WALL and needed the good will of Yankees to BORROW MORE GRAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Chretien was having trouble doing that Kiss and Make up with Yankees because Canada was AGAIN WEARING the NATO SLACKER LABEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The NATO SLACKER LABEL CAME OFF during the time of Stephen Harper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the SLACKER LABEL has been RE-APPLIED thanks to Our idiot Boy Justin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And how better to suck up to Yankees than for Chretien to offer up some worn out equipment that WENT INTO THE SECOND LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes- the RUSTED OUT RCN played BACKUP to the real NATO NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is worth pointing out that the ships sent by Chretien to patrol the Persian Gulf were THE BEST WE HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those two destroyers- plus a supply ship were supposed to be COMBAT READY ON A MOMENTS NOTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were SUPPOSED to be ready to sail and confront the SOVIET RUSSIAN Navy AT ANY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yet- before they could go to the SECOND LINE in the Persian Gulf and watch for Iraqi and maybe Iranian missile carrying MOTORBOATS- the Cdn destroyers SPENT SIX MONTHS IN DRY DOCK being REPAIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And they had assorted anti aircraft weapons ADDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals apparently think the best way to stand on guard for Canada is to bury us so deep in debt that nobody in their right mind will mess with us in any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't it also reported after that he had close ties with a French company doing business in Iraq that was against the war?
