Bill Clinton's China links embarrass Hillary
China National News

London, Apr.14 : Democratic Party presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton's denunciations of China have been undermined by disclosures that her husband, Bill's charitable foundation received a donation from a Chinese internet company accused of aiding the crackdown in Tibet.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Bill Clinton, the former president, had been involved with Alibaba Incorporated, which manages Yahoo China.

Last month, according to The Telegraph, the company posted a government-issued "most wanted" warning on the website's homepage, urging customers to provide information on Tibetan activists suspected of causing riots in the disputed Himalayan territory.

In 2005, Alibaba arranged for Bill Clinton to speak at a conference of Internet executives in Hangzhou, but instead of receiving a fee, which can range from 100,000 dollars to 400,000 dollars, he accepted an undisclosed donation to the William J Clinton Foundation.

A spokesman for the foundation confirmed that a donation had been received from Alibaba.

However, in her White House campaign, Hillary Clinton called on President George W Bush to skip the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in August.

"The violent clashes in Tibet and the failure of the Chinese government to use its full leverage with Sudan to stop the genocide in Darfur are opportunities for presidential leadership," she said recently.

Critics and even associates of the Clintons fear that there would be huge conflicts of interest if the couple returned to the White House and Clinton acted as an international ambassador for the US, as his wife has suggested.

Earlier this year it emerged that he had helped a major donor to his foundation, which combats global poverty and Aids, gain a business deal in Kazakhstan. Against official US policy, he praised the ex-Soviet dictatorship for trying to improve its human rights.

Bill Clinton also supports a proposed free-trade deal between the US and Colombia, which his wife opposes.

News of the Chinese connection prevented Hillary Clinton from taking full advantage of a stumble by Barack Obama, her Democrat rival.

He was criticised for describing small-town voters in Pennsylvania as people who "cling to guns or religion" because they are "bitter" over job losses

It's America!

You can expect anything from these folk.... except the truth and any glimmer of integrity.

Don't worry about Hillary, she's chugging beers in Pennsylvanian pubs these days. She always hangs out in those places rubbing shoulders with the regular folk, unlike that elitist Obama. It happened by chance that tv cameras caught her in one today. Swilling pints, half gassed and playing pool. Good player, she ran the table 4 times in a row. It was a good time had by all. No fist fights this time.

Hey Kreskin!

Got a laugh tonight from the John Stewart show.... After stirring the pot about Billary swilling beer and Obama's "eliteism"...he asked if America didn't actually want an elite to run the show..... If a clear thinking human being who actually has some moral fiber and who can think for himself ...Doesn't need Barbara Frum's little boy to write speeches for him.... and can acknowledge the truth that Americans are bitter and justifiably so given the Bush Administration (who by the way Americans elected in the first place...) has squandered any sympathy and good will earned at the cost of 4000 people on that terrible day in September...then continues to flush the American economy down the drain... while demonstrating incompetence over and over and over....maybe a change of pace from the moron Americans can identify so readily with...might be in order...!

An astute observation for Stewart but more than likely beyond the mental faculty of most Americans....

Kind of reminds me of Mulroney and Reagan doing "Danny Boy"..... Politicians are scum, always have been always will be. You can't win a popular vote if you're not popular....and if your methodology is to demonstrate that you're just as dull witted as the great unwashed....
