I'm talking about disgraced members of Ford's party and Clement from the federal Conservatives.

How is being a sex letch all of a sudden classified as an addiction? I don't get it.

Research does show that such a thing as 'compulsive sexual behaviour disorder' (commonly known as sex addiction) does exist and generally stems from past sexual, physical, or emotional abuse or other past trauma. Unfortunately, some like to use it as an excuse for their behaviour.

Let's put it this way. A person compulsively engages in a low-level sexual behaviour that, though low-level, still crosses his boundaries. Maybe it's compulsive masturbation that then starts to escalate to compulsive porn viewing for example. Well, if he knows it's compulsive and has already witnessed some escalation, then if he sincerely wants to stop the behaviour but can't on his own, would that not be the time to seek help, whether from a professional therapist, a 12-step group, or other?

Now imagine that same person, knowing that his behaviour is compulsive and having already witnessed low-level escalation, decides to ignore these signs. It then escalates to compulsively sharing nude pics with women, to hooking up with random women for sex, then paying women for sex, then paying women for unprotected sex when he finally gets caught, and that's when he cries sex addiction as he seeks sympathy for example.

Let's draw a parallel with alcohol for a moment. A friend tells me that I drink too much and might need help for that. I try to quit and suddenly discover just how hard it is to do so. So, do I seek help now while the addiction is still a low-level addiction or do I wait until it escalates to a full-blown addiction? Which is the responsible decision in your opinion?
