Since we're telling fart stories

In 1979 or 1980, I was on the Honour Guard in Lahr, West Germany, welcoming Prince Philip's plane. He wasn't there to visit us, and had a limo waiting to whisk him away to wherever it was that he was going.

The plane landed and Phil came down the stairs. He didn't inspect us. He was in a rush. Just as he walked by me, I let a two or three second fart loose. It felt great. The underlings following Phil ignored me, but the MWO smiled.

I wonder why people laugh so much at fart jokes?
