I came across a band called The Professionals
earlier this Year. It was formed by Tim Cook, the original drummer for the Sex Pistols back in the 70s. The original Professionals were formed out the drug addled remains of the Pistols in the early 80s. For the latest incarnation Tim drew together some veteran punk/ power rock musicians. They put out an album. And were touring hard corps Brit venues earlier this year.
The Professionals - What in the World.
The music is hard driving, pedal to metal, nitrous burning, straight ahead quarter mile rock. Calling it punk doesn't do justice. Its evolved beyond its origins but retained its angry energy. Somewhat surprisingly there seem to be a positive message to many of the songs on What in the World
away the nihilism, dissolution and anarchy of the punk of the 70s. It's more like of like gootball, male bonding, anthem, music.
Tom Spenser (formerly of the Yos Yos) raspy vocals are raw, whisky, tobacco and testosterone fuelled. I think he looks great out there heading this no apologies band of 50 and 60 year old veteran rockers.
Totally entertaining on records and stage. They are real Pros. Check them out on You Tube.. album vids and Isle of Wight concert footage.. If you like your rock and whisky straight you have to like these guys.
