Back in the day, before my time, Sears used to sell DIY homes you could buy online and build.

Would you do this yourself.

Even from the small sample of homes in your link, many of them look familiar as houses I've seen.

Yes - various Cdn companies LEAD THE WORLD in quality prefab housing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although they dov not sell well in Japan where they are considered TOO LARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And of course the Cdn market GETS LOTS OF PRACTICE............................

building prefab housing for Cdn natives to DESTROY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it not ironic that Cdn natives GRIPE endlessly about the FREE HOUSING..........................

that govt is supplying them.................................

while the rest of the world has praise for Cdn prefab housing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe he PROBLEM is not with the housing.............................

maybe the problem is with the spoiled overgrown children living in them?????????????????????

YOU DO KNOW there is a little problem with air tightness in a log cabin .........right??????

My idiot brother in law burns 17 cords of wood per winter ..........................

living in the log cabin he built!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Idiot deplores all the development in his Muskoka forest retreat.............................

and yet he benefits hugely- getting all that cheap fire wood from the cleared land!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although it is true that makers of log cabin kits have in recent years introduced some sort of joint sealer.....................

to reduce the massive air infiltration from log construction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old way was to fill the joints with cement......................

and that REDUCED THE DRAFTS BUT DID NOT END THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new materials - probably neoprene or something greatly reduce drafts between logs.................

but the sealing material CANNOT BE REPLACED if it dries out and cracks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only complete disassembly of the log structure will allow full replacement of new style seals if needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new type seals rely on compression - the weight of logs piled up- to squeeze the flexible material air tight!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long will such seals last????????????

Who can say????????????????

In our modern world a log structure should be regarded as a THREE SEASON STRUCTURE........................

they are problematic in Cdn winter - even in relatively mild Ontari-owe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the seal on log structures leak it says more about the craftsmanship than the logs. A good log house will outlast any new particl3 board construction by decades.

OH TAXSLAVE YOU ARE SHOWING YOUR IGNORANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 6 mil poly vapour barrier IS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT for any WELL INSULATED CDN HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The standard log cabin DOES NOT HAVE A VAPOUR BARRIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Because the owner WANTS TO SEE the log construction clearly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOG CONSTRUCTION IS AN ATTRACTIVE DESIGN FEATURE - appearance is the ONLY REASON FOR such a building type!!!!!!!!!

The usual log cabin employs various types of seals............................

from the ancient mud chinking and cement chinking between the logs.......................

up to various types of modern neoprene gaskets that are squeezed air tight between logs........................

but like most things - the neoprene wears out and fails to seal fully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that a PROPERLY BUILT LOG HOUSE WILL LAST LONGER than a chipboard residence.....................

from a structural point of view!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT FOR A PROPER STANDARD OF INSULATION - which LIE-berals and the idiot cousins..........................

meaning NDPees and Greenies ARE ALL PUSHING - with Greenies willing to ORDER US TO UPGRADE INSULATION...................

the fact is that chipboard houses offer better INSULATION QUALITIES -thanks to the decent vapour barrier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ou may recall that Ontari-owe Wynne-bag LIE-berals stirred up a STORM OF CONTROVERSY...........................

by suggesting it might be good to FORCE all buildings being sold to undergo an insulation test.......................

to see how well sealed and insulated they were!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With many people PANICKING and assuming LIE-berals were going to FORCE PEOPLE TO RETROFIT their buildings

or suffer severe financial penalties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It IS A FACT THAT softwood logs actually have half decent insulation qualities - approximately r-12 per 4 inches of well dried wood

BUT AS I MENTIONED - THE GAPS BETWEEN THE LOGS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND COSTLY TO SEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And NOTHING you have said disputes or refutes that statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screw that noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET YOUR HEAD ON STRAIGHT AND GET BACK TO ME................................

AFTER YOU HAVE SPENT SOME TIME IN A thirty year old log house............................

IN THE MIDDLE OF A MUSKOKA WIND STORM IN MID WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS I STATED- EVEN NEOPRENE SEALS DEGRADE IN TIME.........................

AND YOU HAVE OFFERED nothing to refute that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?????????????????

I GUESS YOU OWN STOCKS IN A LOG CABIN KIT PRODUCING COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OR DO YOU JUST ENJOY BEING PISSY??????????????????????

On the other hand -the 6ml poly vapour barrier that log cabin builders SHUN....................

because it renders the cabin interior less attractive...............................

LASTS A LOT LONGER THAN THIRTY YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AS MULTIPLE WOOD FRAME HOUSES IN CANADA PROVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE FACT IS that a reliable vapour barrier- meaning one NOT CUT UP by electricians...............................

installing electrical sockets on outside walls IS A NECESSITY if one is to reach the sort of insulation values................

that LIE-berals and NDPees are expecting and which GREENIES ARE DEMANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A typical Log cabin is PRETTY TO LOOK AT..............................

BUT UNABLE TO DELIVER THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY THAT LIE-berals and the idiot cousins DEMAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My idiot brother in law has spent over a decade looking FOR ANY PRODUCT..............................

that can seal his very pretty log cabin and make it cheaper to heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the ONLY REAL SOLUTION IS THE ONE HE REFUSES..........................

meaning line the place with 2 x 4 studs and a layer of fibreglass insulation plus vapour barrier and drywall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now we are back to NO SOLUTION that does not SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE THE VISUAL APPEAL OF THE LOG CABIN!!!!!!!!

Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER IRRELEVANT COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POOR PETROS.............he is MASTER OF IRRELEVANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POOR LIE-berals indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There ARE LOTS OF SHOT TERM SOLUTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND NO LONG TERM SOLUTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any such "LONG TERM SOLUTIONS" are merely backed up BY LAWYER WORD GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And sales BULSH+T trying to get cash now and offer excuses later...........................

IF you can find the sales people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
