Americans threatening to move to Canada if Donald Trump becomes president

Once again Americans are threatening to move to Canada. This time, however, it’s if real estate mogul Donald Trump becomes president.

Many south of the border took to social media following the New Hampshire primary to voice their threats of packing up and making a run for the Great White North if Trump becomes president.

It appears the idle threats were made just after the republican presidential candidate was declared winner of Tuesday’s primary.

“If y’all let Donald Trump become president…I swear I’m packing my family up and moving to Canada,” Shadney Houston tweeted.

“On the bright side, if Donald Trump becomes president, Canada is a beautiful place to live,” another tweeted.

Trump took the Republican primary with 35 per cent of the vote, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich took in just shy of 16 per cent of votes.

“We are going to do something so good and so fast and so strong and the world is going to respect us again. Believe me,” Trump said following his victory.

On the Democratic side of the primary, Bernie Sanders took 60 per cent of the votes compared to Hillary Clinton’s 38 per cent.

This sort of rhetoric is only useful to the partisan trollers. They live among us, you know.

Extreme National Enquirer/Weekly World News headline worthy rhetoric serves the purpose of obscuring actual critical political discussion. That the "media" (and I use quotes for the obvious reasons) encourages this behaviour with overly sensationalistic headlines does not help.

These people are politicians, they are not evil incarnate nor the second coming of Christ. They are people, probably mostly in it for themselves and for whomever will get them re-elected. That's it, it is nothing more exciting than that.

Every US election there are some people proclaiming plans to leave the US. I'm sure the rest of the US would enjoy escorting them to the border.

Here's a link to the New York Times with comments on various threats to leave the county for various elections, including Obama. (In one lone instance, someone actually did.)

Note the second comment quoted related to FDR in 1940.

Be careful what you wish for, the Democrats in the USA are equal to the Conservatives here in Canada..

So allowing 100,000 Dems in should secure a Conservative win next election..

Leave the Americans where they are and bring Donald Trump to Canada. We could use somebody with the fire in his guts to tell it like it is.
