CNBC host Steve Liesman went on a tear bashing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz today. He blamed the poor jobs report on the Texas senator, mocked a photo of him, and then launched a racist attack on Cruz, who is Hispanic.

Liesman said “We’re going to call this the Senator Ted Cruz jobs report. These are the jobless claims of Senator Ted Cruz. There he is!” as a photo of the senator appeared on screen.

Liesman continued: “There he is! Can we get some music to go along with that, some Mexican music maybe?”

For what it’s worth, Ted Cruz’s heritage is not Mexican. His parents escaped Fidel Castro’s Cuba. Cuba is an entirely different country from Mexico.

Apparently all Hispanics look the same to CNBC’s Steve Liesman.

UPDATE: Liesman apologizes with an “if.”
Regarding my recent remark on Squawk Box regarding Senator Ted Cruz, I first want to deeply and sincerely apologize if my remarks were insensitive.

Second, I want to explain that it was not intended to be offensive in any way.

I thought of him only as an American senator from Texas, and in an attempt, on the fly, to choose music representing that state, I chose Mexican music.

As a musician for many decades, I’ve played and listened to tons of Texas songs infused with Mexican themes. A better choice would have been Country/Western or Texas Roadhouse Blues – it was a bad reach all the way around.
Bull. It was a racist attack, and the apology being one of those “if you were offended” apologies, he isn’t sorry and remains a racist who doesn’t know his geography.

I apologize, but....

Either apologize, OR, justify your remarks, but when you do both you do neither. Frick, my teens get this basic fact.

This guy is a piece of work just like Anne Coulter there is a right wing idiot
These people come in pairs you know one right one left and neither has a
brain between them. America is facing serious challenges and instead of
confronting the jobless issue they blame each other for the fact there are
jobless people. I have seen nasty stuff on both sides and it is just as
destructive no matter who does it. And yes race did play a part in the comments.
Cruz is an idiot, a bully and abrasive not because he is a Latino but because
his civility skills are deficient. This rant was stupid.

So that's racist? Cool, that pretty much removes any doubt what certain CC members are, lol.

Just another racist moron. There was no reason to bring Cruz's heritage into his criticism.

He'd be comfortable here.

Cruz's parents did not flee Cuba. His father did. His mother has never been to Cuba.

I love how it's portrayed by some that the lefties are the racists. I will tell you
some of the worst language has come from the right rivalled by the nasty
crap from the left. Again racism is not the domain of the right or the left its the
domain of ignorant people who spend their entire lives in fear of others instead
of tackling their fears through understanding they check their closet to see
if their faulty skeletons are still in style. Only when the rest of us decide its not
acceptable will it stop. We the consumers and distributors of their nonsense
allow it to go on. Don't call it right or left call it what it is Ignorance

Good to see people condemning racial/ethnic insensitivity. Too bad the right wing critics are silent when Coulter engages in her racist comments. For the record I condemn it when it comes from both sides of the political aisle.

Personally I don't want to pick on anyone, its just that a small group of
Albino's with pink eyes are creating all the problems we face. They
don't belong to any race but they intrude upon even animals in the wild.
Last week an Albino reared its ugly head and had to be shot.
We know Albinos are behind Chem Trails and they plotted the 9/11
disaster.
NO one group or political party or race of people are all good, bad or
indifferent and to suggest that by generalizing leaves others open to
question as to why one would want to do that. Could it be they just
don't like the left, sort of like political commentator Anne Coulter does
not like people on the left, she openly says that and her books reflect
that as well.

How dare you accuse the Left of being racist? The Left are never racist. The only racists in this world are those on the Right who disagree with bizarre Left Wing policies.

Not just some... MANY! I am from Massachusetts and the lefties and Dems throw the N word around liberally.

Not just that they do their best to gerrymander Black Neighborhoods so liberal whites can keep their seats in the state house. They want them voting democrat but they don't want them in their neighborhoods or making decisions.

Yeah... don't call it left-right when they left gets called on it. But you'll go on and on about the GOP and their so called war on women and minorities.

Well, her comments about "Jews need to be perfected" in which she re-echoed the words of Hitler were not viewed as being very funny by Jews. Just imagine if that had been said by a liberal!

In the US, republican constituents are starting to get hot-headed.

They who paid saw their premiums jump 200%-300%. They were paying $250 per month, and it jumped to $750 per month, meaning they didn't really spread out the cost... they just left in the parts saying companies could not refuse and could not disallow on the basis of pre-existing conditions.

From that, Republican Americans have been heard to say... "I don't want to be the one paying for f*cking sick black people".

They need a Crown with a smart privy council... their position has made them weak, and the Dragon, being communist while understanding the difference between capitalism and free-enterprise, is looking forward to eating them.

Looks to me like the Canadian fathers of confederacy might have been onto something... it would have been so easy to join the states. Maybe those dudes were just looking at what they did *not* want to be.

How's the behavior of the current Canadian Government doing in terms of keeping Canada a viable nation for all who are not insane, because, in the US, they are heading down into controlled sociological class riot.

There is no sanity anymore (if there ever was some). People who think they are sane are the craziest of them all. It is much safer to watch the game than to be involved in it. People are nuts. It is the greatest show on Earth.

Then we need good church... maybe as a type of submarine.

I just got an idea.

What if Harper slugged into Parliament-majority on personal ideals, and was *not* a puppet of NWO?

It is only now starting to dawn on most American conservatives that complete collapse is the only option remaining to them. Race and class divisions have now converged to produce a fatal tonic. The poison has been introduced into the body politic. Its effects are becoming observable. That's what you are observing.

A word of friendly advice for my Canadian friends. Don't demonize your fellow citizens. Don't personalize policy disputes. Don't attempt to transform your fellow citizens out of existence. Don't marginalize your fellow citizens when your side acquires power. And don't drink the Kool-Aid.

All things pass in time. America is no exception to this rule. The ideals that animated American conservatives are transcendent. They will be reborn in another time and another place. We may win, we may lose, but we will never be here again.

Evidently you're I-Ching.

All I see is that ancestors of Canada were able to see where things would hang if one were to become an American State.
