Dalhousie University has made ‘Emergency Hijab Kits’ available to female Muslim students at multiple locations across the Halifax campus.
The fear is that female Dalhousie Muslim students are being targeted by individuals on and off campus and are having their hijabs forcibly removed. However, no such incidents have been reported to authorities.
The project was a joint venture between the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) and Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group (NSPIRG) and launched earlier this month.
According to a Facebook post, the kits were made necessary due to increased violence on Canadian campuses towards female visible minorities.
“In recognizing the increased incidences of violence towards Women of Colour on campuses across the country, we’ve created these kits so that anyone who has their headdress targeted can quickly get access to a replacement,” reads the announcement by NSPIRG.
Speaking with CBC News, Dalhousie Student Union President Amina Abawajy said, “This is a proactive measure, but it’s not unfounded,” claiming to have been made personally aware of multiple incidents by way of being a member of the Muslim community.
The kits contain the scarf itself, pins for securing the hijab, tips for bystanders and information on how to report incidents to authorities.

Organizers have offered to make them available to departments and offices throughout Dalhousie in addition to the DSU Info Desk, the NSPIRG office and Dal Security for 24/7 access.
Dalhousie spokesman Janet Bryson told The Canadian Press that while the university has agreed to allow the kits, officials do not expect the kits to be used.
“The university has not had a case where someone has had their headdress targeted,” she said in an email. “Our expectation is that they won’t have to be used.”
However, Masuma Khan, a Dalhousie Student executive member who was recently embroiled in a controversy of her own, disagrees and believes such incidents are common.

Comments made by Khan were placed under investigation by the university after she posted with the hashtag “#whitefragilitycankissmya–” in response to backlash over a motion to abstain from Canada 150 celebrations for “over 400 years of genocide.” The university later withdrew the complaint.
“I’ve heard many Muslim women talking about their hijab being yanked, spat on, or even pulled right off,” she said. “Sometimes you don’t even notice it, like you’re in class and someone will spit on you from behind and you don’t realize it until you’re fixing your hijab. It’s the most demeaning behaviour.”
A Halifax Regional Police spokeswoman said she wasn’t aware of any incidents related to head coverings being pulled off in the city.

I have said it before and will do so again: Muslim values render them unfit to be Cdn citizens! Our self professed "feminist" prime minister is playing with fire by thinking he can buy their votes WITHOUT suffering consequences! Our idiot Boy JUstinv thinks he can get friendly with Muslims- and BUY their votes, while screwing Cdn kids! Consider:
Here is a nice little report condemning socialist silly hall spending, along with some comments of my own in brackets.)
How City Hall mortgaged the future
First posted: Saturday, June 25, 2016 06:39 PM EDT. Toronto City Hall (Ernest Doroszuk/Toronto Sun)
Remember the old saying, never trust anyone over 30? Well, millenials shouldn’t trust the politicians at City Hall, because they’ve been spending money you haven’t even earned yet and they’ve already stuck you with the bill. For decades, Toronto politicians have irresponsibly spent beyond our collective means to pay.
They’ve spent recklessly on pet projects while ignoring the taxpayers’ ability to pay and put off critical investments into infrastructure, such as transit, roads and sewer and water services.
(As an example of the catastrophic effects of city hall neglect, we can talk about road resurfacing. Our main roads are constructed of asphalt over concrete with a base layer of sand and gravel and it all sounds simple enough. But there is a cheap way and an expensive way to maintain roads-guess which Silly Hall chose!)
(Asphalt is vulnerable to U.V. degradation and of course it gets hit every winter with the freeze/thaw cycles that crack and buckle the pavement and the salt we put on the road does not help. Then there is the wearing effect of heavy traffic.)
(The relatively cheap way to keep roads in good repair is to do repairs fairly early on-this way one can simply grind off the rough top layer of asphalt and apply more-sadly the city and province as well have largely IGNORED this approach-spending on road repairs would have cut into their need for MORE PERSONAL GRAVY!)
(The other road repair approach-the one our govts have chosen by neglect, is to spend recklessly on anything EXCEPT roads-and to let the asphalt paving AND the underlying concrete, along with the sand and gravel base get so frost heaved and so damaged that it is no longer possible simply to grind off the top layer of asphalt-too many of our roads are so degraded that to repair them properly means ripping virtually ALL of it up and starting over from scratch! This is much more costly and labour intensive in the long run-a method that our grossly greedy govt has pursued for decades while our infrastructure crumbled!)
(Even worse than the cost to now completely rebuild so much of what might once have needed modest repairs; is the underlying related cost to everybody. Bashing through ruts and potholes puts strain on vehicle steering components leading to costly repairs for tie rod ends, suspension and etc. Then there is the damage to tires and rims-all these costs are dumped on us while govt picks our pockets for their personal gravy train and ignores everything falling apart around us! Add in flooded buildings from ruptured water mains and from sewer backups and related insurance premium increases, then throw in roads flooded and impassable after heavy rains and you have a steadily escalating cost to the public.)
As a result, city officials are now endlessly chewing over proposing new revenue tools which, were they all implemented, would cost Torontonians a staggering $3.6 billion in new taxes, fees and levies.
That includes a new municipal income tax, a new municipal sales tax and new taxes on alcohol, tobacco, hotel rooms and parking, to name a few.
(In other words, govt wants to have its cake and eat it too. Our govt owes HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to the 19 separate civil service Hog unions that work for the four levels of govt-federal, provincial, municipal, and the assorted crown corporations such as ORNGE, E-health, Metrolinx, along with the colleges and universities and hospitals. Generations of Cdn politicians have got themselves elected by making ever wilder promises to Hog unions-promises that add up to MANY hundreds of billions of dollars that we don’t have! And now the `IOU`s are coming due-govt MUST now CHOOSE! They cannot defer any longer-either they make those wild promises come true-or they allow the gravy train to collapse into ruins thus exposing several generations of loonie-leftist politicians to civil service Hog RAGE! And LIE-berals cannot be elected without purchased Hog support-and the money has run out!)
(Govt has neglected our infrastructure for DECADES while everything rots and the bills escalate exponentially. Govt has collected great gravy for decades and now wants to try to tell US that its our fault things are so decayed-they CLAIM that we have not paid enough in taxes! What a bunch of cheap ass hypocrites! Govt needs to be told: NO MORE GRAVY FOR YOU!)
Last month, Toronto’s city manager presented a report on “Toronto’s long-term financial direction” that concludes the city can’t continue to spend as it has. And that neither tax hikes nor spending cuts alone will get us out of the fiscal mess we’re in. It will take doing both over a long period of time.
How bad are things at City Hall, which will spend $15 billion this year through its operating and capital budgets, a staggering $5,200 per city resident?
Well, councils over the years have approved $29 billion worth of capital projects for which there’s no funding.
(Prior to the 2015 municipal elections I stated that there would be NO new transit built during the term of Jackass John The Sorry Tory-if he should be elected mayor of Toronto. And here we are looking at our third-or fourth different proposed/pie in the sky transit plan-with NO money for any of it! The only transit being built is that batch that was ordered up when Ford was mayor!)
(Former mayor Rob Ford understood the situation clearly-we have money EITHER for gravy or for transit-but NOT BOTH! Anybody who wants to build new transit MUST be prepared to cut cars off the Hog gravy train-as that is where the resources are that we need to regain control of if we wish to fix or build anything major around here!)
And you can bet those capital cost estimates are low because, as staff note, many are based on old numbers that could increase significantly when the projects actually get underway.
(Even worse-most of those numbers are DELIBERATELY low balled-either by contractors or by city hall staff in order to make it easier to ram projects through council!)
On that score, consider virtually every major public transit project the city has undertaken in recent years.
(Yes-do consider the average TWENTY FIVE percent plus cost over runs on each project!)
Mayor John Tory has noted that when he first got to City Hall, he discovered the real costs of capital projects were routinely low-balled at council to get them approved.
(The Jackass is observant isn’t he? Especially when the obvious is staring him in the face!)
Given this history, everything this council says about how to budget going forward should be viewed with skepticism.
The first step is for council to get its operating spending under control which means reining in the cost of the public service.
If council is going to introduce new taxes, they must be earmarked for specific projects, not just sent down the black hole of general revenues never to be seen again.
There must be sunset laws on new taxes, meaning they can’t just be implemented from now until forever.
Rather, they must expire after a finite period of time, after which council would have to justify them as good value for money spent in order to renew them.
We agree with the city’s top bureaucrats that it took many years for the city to get into the fiscal mess it’s in and there are no magic bullets or overnight solutions.
All the more reason to get started on the job now.
(I say new revenue tools will NOT help the city as there will too many ways of getting around them. For one thing, new revenue tools are inflationary and so each new tool will bring further demands on Silly Hall to give out more gravy to Hogs!)
(Another consideration is the number of people LEAVING Toronto every morning for work has exceeded the number of people COMING IN for work for several decades now-higher taxes in Toronto mean that people and businesses will move OUT to cheaper locations-or at least do their shopping and etc elsewhere as much as possible-thus avoiding the new tools as much as possible!)
(Toronto is ALREADY well on its way to becoming a city composed of elite civil servants and poverty stricken immigrants-with a steadily shrinking private sector employed white middle class. Toronto is already at odds with the rest of the province-if Ontari-owe provincial govt was elected only by people outside Toronto, then The Great Whore-premier Wynny and her LIE-beral cronies who have sold us all to the Hogs- would ALREADY be sitting on the trash heap of history-this is a significant matter as Toronto gets proportionately TEN TIMES more in provincial grants and transfers than other municipalities. At the point where provincial fiscal justice is restored-Toronto will be looking at a large cutback in funding transfers-just another reason why the gravy train is coming off the tracks!)
(And isn’t it silly that all this mess is falling onto the heads of our kids-who just happen to be the Cdn generation LEAST interested in voting! Not only are they being screwed on jobs and debts and taxes, they are also so poorly served by our school system they don’t understand WHY they should have a strong say in what`s happening!)
