Ten Questions for bin Laden

Ten Questions for bin Laden

So, bin Laden supposedly admits to 9/11:

I guess people are starting to ask too many questions about the events of that day - what better way to throw folks off the scent than a 'confession from the accused'.

Okay, here's a few questions I'd like 'criminal mastermind' bin Laden to answer:

Did he inform the CIA of his plans since pre-9/11 insider trading on UA and AA options lead to the highest ranks of the CIA?

Did he ask FEMA to be in New York on 9/11?

Did he tell Larry Silverstein to prepare WTC 7 for demolition on 9/11?

Did he inform the Israelis of his plans?

Did he stand down the USAF?

Did he phone New York's authorities to inform them that the WTC was going to collapse?

Did he plant explosives in the twin towers to ensure perfect collapses?

Did he make provisions to ensure the investigation into the collapse of the twin towers was an underfunded farce

Did he instruct President Bush to try and limit the scope of the 9/11 probe?

Why didn't he know the identities of his 'hand-picked' hijackers?

Answers on a postcard please.

Interesting questions indeed moghrabi. However, one must be critical, so I chose the "Israeli connection" question to read (not by incidence, I just have this interest for things envolving Israel and Israelis). Now, reading all 31 sources (took me some time!) given in the article of whatreallyhappened.com., made me come up with some inconsistencies.

This is, according to the website, the "most logical scenario":

1. The Israeli “movers” cheered the 9-11 attacks to celebrate the successful accomplishment of the greatest spy operation ever pulled off in history.

2. One of them, or an accomplice, then calls a 9-1-1 police dispatcher to report Palestinian bomb-makers in a white van headed for the Holland Tunnel.

3. Having thus pre-framed the Palestinians with this phone call, the Israeli bombers then head for the George Washington Bridge instead, where they will drop off their time-bomb van and escape with Urban Moving accomplices.

4. But the police react very wisely and proactively by closing off ALL bridges and tunnels instead of just the Holland Tunnel. This move inadvertently foils the Israelis’ misdirection play and leads to their own capture and 40 day torture.

5. To cover up this story, the U.S. Justice Department rounds up over 1000 Arabs for minor immigration violations and places them in New York area jails. The Israelis therefore become less conspicuous as the government and media can now claim that the Israelis were just immigration violators caught in the same dragnet as many other Arabs.

6. After several months, FBI and Justice Department “higher-ups” are able to gradually push aside the local FBI agents and free the Israelis quietly.

First I have to notice however that all five Israelis are said to be "Mossad agents". However, not ONE article given by the site mentions that ALL five Israelis were Mossad agents. In fact, this is what is said:

However, a counterintelligence investigation by the FBI concluded that at least two of them were in fact Mossad operatives, according to the former American official, who said he was regularly briefed on the investigation by two separate law enforcement officials.

"The assessment was that Urban Moving Systems was a front for the Mossad and operatives employed by it," he said. "The conclusion of the FBI was that they were spying on local Arabs but that they could leave because they did not know anything about 9/11."

Source: www.forward.com

Besides the fact that this is the only article which speaks (in an official manner) of the fact "at least two of them" were Mossad operatives (read: not all five), the same source also concludes "they were spying on local Arabs but ... they could leave because they did not know anything about 9/11". There is reason to doubt the credibility of the source ("a former American official", how vague), but that would also mean that whatreallyhappened.com has no other sources which directly claim that (some of) the five Israelis were Mossad operatives.

Now, I do have to say that the other (two) sources which are dealing about whether or not the Israelis were Mossad agents (from ABC News) are not available anymore.

Now, to come back on the six points given by the site (whatreallyhappened.com) about what they say happened that morning, on 9/11, I think some of them are questionable too. An anynomous phonecall that morning said the following:

Dispatcher: Jersey City police.
Caller: Yes, we have a white van, 2 or 3 guys in there, they look like Palestinians and going around a building.
Caller: There's a minivan heading toward the Holland tunnel, I see the guy by Newark Airport mixing some junk and he has those sheikh uniform.
Dispatcher: He has what?
Caller: He's dressed like an Arab.

whatreallyhappened.com says that "one of them, or an accomplice" (talking about the five Israelis) called the police. WNBC, who made a report about this anynomous phonecall, does not say that it was an Israeli, or a man with a weird accent, who phoned the police. Actually, the conversation above is the one thing mentioned about it. Not one single other source reports about the phonecall. Now, I do not doubt the credibility of the phonecall; what I do doubt, however, is how whatreallyhappened.com could conclude that it was an Israeli, or someone linked to the five arrested Israelis, who made the phonecall. NOT A SINGLE SOURCE says this.

And thinking logically, what would be the point? Yes, the phonecall said it were "Palestinians", so you can blame the Palestinians for 9/11; it also said that the white van was in another tunnel than the Israeli van was driving, so allegedly focusing attention on something else. However, why would the caller say it was a "white van"? If this caller was indeed linked to the five Israelis, this would have been a really stupid mistake: the five Israelis were driving in a white van too, making them only look more suspicious, as the police was looking for a white van BECAUSE OF THIS PHONECALL.

By the way, the conclusion made at point 01 ("the Israeli “movers” cheered the 9-11 attacks to celebrate the successful accomplishment of the greatest spy operation ever pulled off in history") does not seem to be based on anything; as said before, the FBI concluded that the five Israelis had nothing to do with 9/11 (you know, that vague American official). However, I doubt the vague official who said that, but if so, as I said before, the claim that these five Israelis were spies, does not seem to be based on anything either.

Also I want to point out that in the original article of whatreallyhappened.com, it is mentioned that "the van was full of explosives", pointing at a Jerusalem Post (! - claimed to be biased anyway by whatreallyhappened.com - talk about double standards)article. However, another source (www.fpp.co.uk) which is also used by whatreallyhappened.com, says that yes, the policedogs did react on the smell of explosives, but, nothing was found (something different from "van (...) full of explosives". I do not deny that there could be explosives in it. However, whatreallyhappened.com only presents two minor articles about a van "full of explosives" (one by the Jerusalem Post, and one by TCM Breaking News), while others (www.fpp.co.uk, the New York Times, IsraelNationalNews) do acknowledge that the dogs reacted on explosives, but none were directly found. Considering the article by the Jerusalem Post and TCM were of September 12th 2001, when everything was all very chaotic, one can doubt whether they both fully checked their source.

I will evaluate the rest later.

Five Israelis were seen filming as jet liners ploughed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 ...
Were they part of a massive spy ring which shadowed the 9/11 hijackers and knew that al-Qaeda planned a devastating terrorist attack on the USA? Neil Mackay investigates

THERE was ruin and terror in Manhattan, but, over the Hudson River in New Jersey, a handful of men were dancing. As the World Trade Centre burned and crumpled, the five men celebrated and filmed the worst atrocity ever committed on American soil as it played out before their eyes.

Who do you think they were? Palestinians? Saudis? Iraqis, even? Al-Qaeda, surely? Wrong on all counts. They were Israelis – and at least two of them were Israeli intelligence agents, working for Mossad, the equivalent of MI6 or the CIA.

Their discovery and arrest that morning is a matter of indisputable fact. To those who have investigated just what the Israelis were up to that day, the case raises one dreadful possibility: that Israeli intelligence had been shadowing the al-Qaeda hijackers as they moved from the Middle East through Europe and into America where they trained as pilots and prepared to suicide-bomb the symbolic heart of the United States. And the motive? To bind America in blood and mutual suffering to the Israeli cause.

After the attacks on New York and Washington, the former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was asked what the terrorist strikes would mean for US-Israeli relations. He said: “It’s very good.” Then he corrected himself, adding: “Well, it’s not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy [for Israel from Americans].”

If Israel’s closest ally felt the collective pain of mass civilian deaths at the hands of terrorists, then Israel would have an unbreakable bond with the world’s only hyperpower and an effective free hand in dealing with the Palestinian terrorists who had been murdering its innocent civilians as the second intifada dragged on throughout 2001.

It’s not surprising that the New Jersey housewife who first spotted the five Israelis and their white van wants to preserve her anonymity. She’s insisted that she only be identified as Maria. A neighbour in her apartment building had called her just after the first strike on the Twin Towers. Maria grabbed a pair of binoculars and, like millions across the world, she watched the horror of the day unfold.

As she gazed at the burning towers, she noticed a group of men kneeling on the roof of a white van in her parking lot. Here’s her recollection: “They seemed to be taking a movie. They were like happy, you know ... they didn’t look shocked to me. I thought it was strange.”

Maria jotted down the van’s registration and called the police. The FBI was alerted and soon there was a statewide all points bulletin put out for the apprehension of the van and its occupants. The cops traced the number, establishing that it belonged to a company called Urban Moving.

Police Chief John Schmidig said: “We got an alert to be on the lookout for a white Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration and writing on the side. Three individuals were seen celebrating in Liberty State Park after the impact. They said three people were jumping up and down.”

By 4pm on the afternoon of September 11, the van was spotted near New Jersey’s Giants stadium. A squad car pulled it over and inside were five men in their 20s. They were hustled out of the car with guns levelled at their heads and handcuffed.

In the car was $4700 in cash, a couple of foreign passports and a pair of box cutters – the concealed Stanley Knife-type blades used by the 19 hijackers who’d flown jetliners into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon just hours before. There were also fresh pictures of the men standing with the smouldering wreckage of the Twin Towers in the background. One image showed a hand flicking a lighter in front of the devastated buildings, like a fan at a pop concert. The driver of the van then told the arresting officers: “We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.”

His name was Sivan Kurzberg. The other four passengers were Kurzberg’s brother Paul, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari. The men were dragged off to prison and transferred out of the custody of the FBI’s Criminal Division and into the hands of their Foreign Counterintelligence Section – the bureau’s anti-espionage squad.

A warrant was issued for a search of the Urban Moving premises in Weehawken in New Jersey. Boxes of papers and computers were removed. The FBI questioned the firm’s Israeli owner, Dominik Otto Suter, but when agents returned to re-interview him a few days later, he was gone. An employee of Urban Moving said his co-workers had laughed about the Manhattan attacks the day they happened. “I was in tears,” the man said. “These guys were joking and that bothered me. These guys were like, ‘Now America knows what we go through.’”

Vince Cannistraro, former chief of operations for counter-terrorism with the CIA, says the red flag went up among investigators when it was discovered that some of the Israelis’ names were found in a search of the national intelligence database. Cannistraro says many in the US intelligence community believed that some of the Israelis were working for Mossad and there was speculation over whether Urban Moving had been “set up or exploited for the purpose of launching an intelligence operation against radical Islamists”.

This makes it clear that there was no suggestion whatsoever from within American intelligence that the Israelis were colluding with the 9/11 hijackers – simply that the possibility remains that they knew the attacks were going to happen, but effectively did nothing to help stop them.

After the owner vanished, the offices of Urban Moving looked as if they’d been closed down in a big hurry. Mobile phones were littered about, the office phones were still connected and the property of at least a dozen clients were stacked up in the warehouse. The owner had cleared out his family home in New Jersey and returned to Israel.

Two weeks after their arrest, the Israelis were still in detention, held on immigration charges. Then a judge ruled that they should be deported. But the CIA scuppered the deal and the five remained in custody for another two months. Some went into solitary confinement, all underwent two polygraph tests and at least one underwent up to seven lie detector sessions before they were eventually deported at the end of November 2001. Paul Kurzberg refused to take a lie detector test for 10 weeks, but then failed it. His lawyer said he was reluctant to take the test as he had once worked for Israeli intelligence in another country.

Nevertheless, their lawyer, Ram Horvitz, dismissed the allegations as “stupid and ridiculous”. Yet US government sources still maintained that the Israelis were collecting information on the fundraising activities of groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Mark Regev, of the Israeli embassy in Washington, would have none of that and he said the allegations were “simply false”. The men themselves claimed they’d read about the World Trade Centre attacks on the internet, couldn’t see it from their office and went to the parking lot for a better view. Their lawyers and the embassy say their ghoulish and sinister celebrations as the Twin Towers blazed and thousands died were due to youthful foolishness.

The respected New York Jewish newspaper, The Forward, reported in March 2002, however, that it had received a briefing on the case of the five Israelis from a US official who was regularly updated by law enforcement agencies. This is what he told The Forward: “The assessment was that Urban Moving Systems was a front for the Mossad and operatives employed by it.” He added that “the conclusion of the FBI was that they were spying on local Arabs”, but the men were released because they “did not know anything about 9/11”.

Back in Israel, several of the men discussed what happened on an Israeli talk show. One of them made this remarkable comment: “The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event.” But how can you document an event unless you know it is going to happen?

We are now deep in conspiracy theory territory. But there is more than a little circumstantial evidence to show that Mossad – whose motto is “By way of deception, thou shalt do war” – was spying on Arab extremists in the USA and may have known that September 11 was in the offing, yet decided to withhold vital information from their American counterparts which could have prevented the terror attacks.

Following September 11, 2001, more than 60 Israelis were taken into custody under the Patriot Act and immigration laws. One highly placed investigator told Carl Cameron of Fox News that there were “tie-ins” between the Israelis and September 11; the hint was clearly that they’d gathered intelligence on the planned attacks but kept it to themselves.

The Fox News source refused to give details, saying: “Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It’s classified information.” Fox News is not noted for its condemnation of Israel; it’s a ruggedly patriotic news channel owned by Rupert Murdoch and was President Bush’s main cheerleader in the war on terror and the invasion of Iraq.

Another group of around 140 Israelis were detained prior to September 11, 2001, in the USA as part of a widespread investigation into a suspected espionage ring run by Israel inside the USA. Government documents refer to the spy ring as an “organised intelligence-gathering operation” designed to “penetrate government facilities”. Most of those arrested had served in the Israeli armed forces – but military service is compulsory in Israel. Nevertheless, a number had an intelligence background.

The first glimmerings of an Israeli spying exercise in the USA came to light in spring 2001, when the FBI sent a warning to other federal agencies alerting them to be wary of visitors calling themselves “Israeli art students” and attempting to bypass security at federal buildings in order to sell paintings. A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) report suggested the Israeli calls “may well be an organised intelligence-gathering activity”. Law enforcement documents say that the Israelis “targeted and penetrated military bases” as well as the DEA, FBI and dozens of government facilities, including secret offices and the unlisted private homes of law enforcement and intelligence personnel.

A number of Israelis questioned by the authorities said they were students from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, but Pnina Calpen, a spokeswoman for the Israeli school, did not recognise the names of any Israelis mentioned as studying there in the past 10 years. A federal report into the so-called art students said many had served in intelligence and electronic signal intercept units during their military service.

According to a 61-page report, drafted after an investigation by the DEA and the US immigration service, the Israelis were organised into cells of four to six people. The significance of what the Israelis were doing didn’t emerge until after September 11, 2001, when a report by a French intelligence agency noted “according to the FBI, Arab terrorists and suspected terror cells lived in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as in Miami and Hollywood, Florida, from December 2000 to April 2001 in direct proximity to the Israeli spy cells”.

The report contended that Mossad agents were spying on Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehi, two of leaders of the 9/11 hijack teams. The pair had settled in Hollywood, Florida, along with three other hijackers, after leaving Hamburg – where another Mossad team was operating close by.

Hollywood in Florida is a town of just 25,000 souls. The French intelligence report says the leader of the Mossad cell in Florida rented apartments “right near the apartment of Atta and al-Shehi”. More than a third of the Israeli “art students” claimed residence in Florida. Two other Israelis connected to the art ring showed up in Fort Lauderdale. At one time, eight of the hijackers lived just north of the town.

Put together, the facts do appear to indicate that Israel knew that 9/11, or at least a large-scale terror attack, was about to take place on American soil, but did nothing to warn the USA. But that’s not quite true. In August 2001, the Israelis handed over a list of terrorist suspects – on it were the names of four of the September 11 hijackers. Significantly, however, the warning said the terrorists were planning an attack “outside the United States”.

The Israeli embassy in Washington has dismissed claims about the spying ring as “simply untrue”. The same denials have been issued repeatedly by the five Israelis seen high-fiving each other as the World Trade Centre burned in front of them.

Their lawyer, Ram Horwitz, insisted his clients were not intelligence officers. Irit Stoffer, the Israeli foreign minister, said the allegations were “completely untrue”. She said the men were arrested because of “visa violations”, adding: “The FBI investigated those cases because of 9/11.”

Jim Margolin, an FBI spokesman in New York, implied that the public would never know the truth, saying: “If we found evidence of unauthorised intelligence operations that would be classified material.” Yet, Israel has long been known, according to US administration sources, for “conducting the most aggressive espionage operations against the US of any US ally”. Seventeen years ago, Jonathan Pollard, a civilian working for the American Navy, was jailed for life for passing secrets to Israel. At first, Israel claimed Pollard was part of a rogue operation, but the government later took responsibility for his work.

It has always been a long-accepted agreement among allies – such as Britain and America or America and Israel – that neither country will jail a “friendly spy” nor shame the allied country for espionage. Chip Berlet, a senior analyst at Boston’s Political Research Associates and an expert in intelligence, says: “It’s a backdoor agreement between allies that says that if one of your spies gets caught and didn’t do too much harm, he goes home. It goes on all the time. The official reason is always visa violation.”

What we are left with, then, is fact sullied by innuendo. Certainly, it seems, Israel was spying within the borders of the United States and it is equally certain that the targets were Islamic extremists probably linked to September 11. But did Israel know in advance that the Twin Towers would be hit and the world plunged into a war without end; a war which would give Israel the power to strike its enemies almost without limit? That’s a conspiracy theory too far, perhaps. But the unpleasant feeling that, in this age of spin and secrets, we do not know the full and unadulterated truth won’t go away. Maybe we can guess, but it’s for the history books to discover and decide.

A good article indeed moghrabi - I think it's better than the one of whatreallyhappened.com, although there is not really something new in it. As I said, the article of whatreallyhappened.com had some inconsistencies. This one does not seem to have that. I would rather however have a reply to the article of whatreallyhappened.com: that the autors of that article made some mistakes in interpreting the sources and bringing this story to us. I would also like to comment that I find it odd that the Israelis were loudly cheering the event, and so placing full attention on them. What is your view on that?
Israelis have a special relationship with the US. So being Mossad agents, they know that they will get free if they cheer or not. They could always point the fingers at the Pals (as they did) and get away with it.

I do not find it strange if the Mossads were cheering in Manhattan. What I find odd is that they were documenting something that was happening. How would they know when to start documenting if they did not have prior knowledge of what is going to happen and when?
Rick van Opbergen
moghrabi did you read my first post? Not a single source concludes it were the five Israelis pointing at the Palestinians in the anonymous phonecall. For the rest, I agree its very odd, and I do not deny, that there is a lot behind this story.
–and when did they tell us?
Israel had foreknowledge of 9/11 – that was Carl Cameron's explosive contention, made last year in a blockbuster series of reports on Fox News exposing an Israeli spy ring in the U.S. New evidence confirms his story – and points to a rather ominous conclusion….

Reporting the round-up and deportation of scores of Israeli agents – masquerading as "art students" – Cameron noted last December that several were "active Israeli military" and the rest had skills that one normally associates with spies: electronic interception, explosives, and special operations. Several failed polygraph tests when asked if they were engaged in "surveillance activities against and in the United States." Aside from trying to penetrate U.S. government facilities, this network, which went into high gear in the months prior to 9/11, was also watching the Al Qaeda terrorists, according to Cameron:

"There is no indication that the Israelis were involved in the 9-11 attacks, but investigators suspect that the Israelis may have gathered intelligence about the attacks in advance, and not shared it. A highly placed investigator said there are – quote – 'tie-ins.' But when asked for details, he flatly refused to describe them, saying, – quote – 'evidence linking these Israelis to 9-11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information.'"

This was denied up and down by the U.S. and Israeli governments, and the story was derided as an "urban myth," denounced as an "anti-Semitic" canard, and subsequently banished from the pages of the "mainstream" media. But evidence began to pile up: reports of hundreds of Israelis descending on U.S. government facilities, and a massive round-up of these operatives claiming to be "art students," began to leak out.

The story refused to die. A secret government report (originating with the Drug Enforcement Agency) detailing the highly suspicious activities of these aspiring Israeli "artists" was subsequently uncovered, and a series of stories appeared in the international media: Le Monde, the British media, and then leaping across the Atlantic. An excellent article in Salon, by Christopher Ketcham, and wire stories detailing the leaked contents of the DEA report raised awareness of a possible Israeli connection to the events surrounding 9/11.

I've been covering this since November of last year, when I noticed a story in the Washington Post reporting the detention of some 60 Israelis under the same legal rubric as the Arabs being held on suspicion of terrorist connections. These guys, said the Justice Department lawyers, were of "special interest" to the government; and, as their role in the events leading up to 9/11 begins to come into clearer focus, I can see why…..

A report in Die Zeit, a German newspaper, outlining the glitches and outright obstructionism that led to the greatest intelligence failure in our history reveals a stunning bit of information. The BBC reports:

"The paper has uncovered details of a major Israeli spy ring involving some a 120 agents for the intelligence service Mossad operating across America and some masquerading as arts students."

The Israeli "art student" story has come a long way since the days when it could be airily dismissed: the whitewashers have been forced back to their second line of defense, which is admitting that, yes, there was an Israeli spy ring in the U.S., but they had no foreknowledge of 9/11. That was the conclusion reached by a recent article in the Forward, as well as an ABC News report, "The White Van." But the latest revelation goes further:

"The ring was reportedly hard on the heels of at least four members of the hijack gang, including its leader Mohammed Atta."

The whitewashers, it seems, have retreated to their third line of defense, as iterated by the BBC:

"But the Israeli agents were detected by their American counterparts and thrown out of the country, it says. The US authorities said then that they were students whose visas had expired.

"Just a month before the deadly attacks, the paper said, Mossad handed over to the Americans a detailed report naming several suspects they believe were preparing an attack on the United States."

So the Mossad has an alibi, after all. Or maybe not. For, according to these same reports, including one in Der Spiegel:

"An entire troop of Israeli terror investigators disguised as students took to the tracks of Arabic terrorists and their cells in the USA between December 2000 and April 2001. During their undercover investigations, the Israelis came very close to the later perpetrators of September 11. In Hollywood, Florida they located both of the former Hamburg students and later terrorist pilots Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi as potential terrorists. Agents settled down in immediate proximity of their apartment and observed the seemingly normal flight school students around the clock."

So they were living next door to the terrorists, including the leader of the 9/11 hijackers, watching their every move – but didn't tell us what they were up to until August, 2001.

The list turned over to the FBI by the Israelis apparently contained the names of at least four of the nineteen hijackers, but the warning was non-specific: only that these were potential terrorists. It stretches the bounds of credulity to believe that, after observing them up close for an extended period of time – and perhaps monitoring them in other ways – the Israelis knew no more than this.

The DEA report names South Florida, and specifically Hollywood, a small city near Ft. Lauderdale, as the nexus of the Israeli "art student" spy ring: "The Hollywood, Florida area seems to be a central point for these individuals with several having addresses in this area." The DEA investigators also noted that a whole platoon of these characters, including the leaders, were apprehended in the South Florida area from March to May, 2001. Prior to 9/11, the authorities had detained 140 of them nationwide: and they were still rounding them up, some 60 more, after the event.

So if the Israelis had decided, in August, to come clean with the information they had, then why were federal agents still arresting and detaining our "partners" in the "war on terrorism" in late November and early December? The DEA report also shows that the South Florida operation was active since at least January, perhaps earlier: plenty of time and opportunity to gather more than vague inferences as to the terrorists' intentions.

But the spin put on this by Die Zeit and Der Spiegel is that if only those stupid Americans had listened to their friends, the Mossad, 9/11 would never have happened. The latter avers that no sooner had the Mossad located Atta and his crew, then the ungrateful Americans acted in their typically pig-headed and even vindictive manner:

"Yet soon after, the agents were unmasked by US authorities and deported to Israel. As usual in such cases, the exposure was not made public and only led to disgruntlement between the traditionally competitive intelligence agencies Mossad and CIA. This case proves once again that even in concretely dangerous situations, the US agents were not obliged to cooperate, instead opting to antagonize each other."

This case proves nothing of the sort. What it does prove is 1) that those of us who identified the Israeli "art students" as part of a spy operation in the U.S. were absolutely correct, 2) that the Israelis were not only conducting covert operations against U.S. government facilities but were also watching the hijackers very closely, and 3) that some people will go to any lengths to avoid considering some very unpleasant and politically explosive possibilities.

It is possible that the Israelis were doing more than merely watching the hijackers. As Mohammed Atta and Marwan Alshehhi went back and forth between Huffman Aviation, a flight school in nearby Venice, and their Hollywood apartment, what were the Mossad agents next door doing – and why did they wait until August, after their operation had been discovered and busted up, to share this vital information?

But Der Spiegel knows better than to implicate the Israelis in anything untoward, and instead mournfully reports that "observation of the … terrorists also ceased" when the "art students" were apprehended. But if the information had been shared then and there – in March, when the authorities first became aware of the Hollywood-centered South Florida operation – then what prevented the FBI from taking up where the Mossad had left off? Der Spiegel is vague about this:

"The Israelis' list with at least four of the 19 assassins from September 11 was apparently not handled by the CIA with the necessary urgency, nor was it forwarded to the FBI. Fact is that the US authorities did not efficiently follow up on the Israeli agents' leads. Information on the Israeli tips has also been made known in the USA during the [Senate intelligence committee 9/11 hearings], which [have] been ongoing for weeks."

While the FBI is scapegoated for its alleged inefficiency, the Israelis were not exactly forthcoming. On March 3, 2001, alerted to the Israeli "art student" invasion, the Orlando office of the DEA took one Peer Segalovitz into custody, and interrogated him for four hours. According to the DEA report:

"Segalovitz was untruthful about his reasoning to be in the United States for approximately the first 3 hours. Segalovitz finally admitted that he was one of approximately 30 Israeli art students who are currently in Florida. Segalovitz would not admit what their purpose was in Florida, but did state that they were not here for legitimate means."

A 27-year-old officer of the Israeli special military forces, attached to the 650th battalion stationed in the Golan Heights, Segalovitz gave his rank (Lieutenant) and serial number (5087989) and said that he "specialized in demolition." After recounting his familiarity with military operations, and stating "that the only thing he was not trained to operate was military aircraft," he "asked agents not to divulge this information to Israel because it would lead to his immediate arrest in Israel."

If it's true, as Der Spiegel avers, that the distinguished members of the Senate Committee investigating 9/11 are pinning the blame on our own intelligence agencies and exonerating the role of the Mossad, one can only wonder why they don't call Mr. Segalovitz as an expert witness?

And while they're at it, they might also call for the extradition from Israel of two people named on the FBI's terrorist suspect list: Dominik Suter and Ornit Levinson Suter, who fled when their Urban Moving Systems office and warehouse was raided by the police. Four employees of this New Jersey-based firm had been arrested on 9/11, hours after the attacks, when they were seen cheering as the World Trade Towers burned. They were held for months, and then deported. Even Barbara Walters' whitewash of this incident admitted that Urban Moving Systems was undoubtedly a Mossad front.

I deal with this subject at length in my forthcoming book, The Terror Enigma, to be published by Verso Books sometime next year. Suffice to say here that the Israeli role in the events leading up to 9/11 is, at best, highly suspicious. Certainly the news that their agents were close neighbors of Mohammed Atta and an accomplice leads to some disturbing juxtapositions.

Did the "art students" stand behind the terrorists in line at the local supermarket? Did they bump into each other in the street – and what, pray tell, did these dedicated Al Qaeda cadre think of a group of Israelis living in such close proximity?

In considering the mystery of how the Mossad and Al Qaeda came to be next door neighbors, I am reminded of this little exchange between Brit Hume and Carl Cameron at the end of their December 11 broadcast:

HUME: "Carl, what about this question of advanced knowledge of what was going to happen on 9-11? How clear are investigators that some Israeli agents may have known something?"

CAMERON: "It's very explosive information, obviously, and there's a great deal of evidence that they say they have collected – none of it necessarily conclusive. It's more when they put it all together. A bigger question, they say, is how could they not have known?"

Inquiring minds want to know….

It's easy to put 2 and 2 together when you already know the answer is 4.
Margie Burns comments: In the tape, bin Laden ridicules Bush for reading a children's book during the 9/11 attacks. Did bin Laden watch the Booker Elementary video? Again, if he has this kind of Internet access, why hasn't our intelligence community been tracking him? [or] Who has been providing bin Laden with his information? If he's been receiving email all this time, he must have an electronic trail.

So my question to bin is where did he see the video?

Perhaps he popped into Islamabad under cover of the local CIA field office - the ISI - and caught Fahrenheit 911 one night.

The point missed by mainsteam media is that if the tape is genuine and Osama is rested and in good health - for someone under "relentless pursuit" (which we really know is not true anyway), who is taking care of him?

If this tape is genuine, did the local field office say, "Ok, bin. Make it a good performance. Soon you will have a villa in the local retirement community for retired CIA intelligence assets. Full indexed pension included."

Alive and free Osama aids the US agenda.
Very good points Vista.

Osama Bin Hidin is a folk hero in the Islamic world, especially Pakistan and still many parts of Afghanistan. OBL and Mullah Omar could be anywhere, including Iran or Syria. Not only does he have Internet access, I'm sure he's got the best portable dialysis machine money can buy. The local population will hide him and take care of him without a second thought, if not out of reverence, then certainly out of fear.

So, the point's not being missed, it's really just rather moot.
This mistake have been made in the past when the US accused Iraq of having Bin Laden. So let's not go there anymore and assume he is here or there.

The point here is if you know where he might be, how come the most powerful country can't find him. How come Al-Jazeera was told by the US to broadcast the tape ASAP. How come he looks younger than he should be. How come he is trying to be giving advice to US citizens instead of planting fear. and so on....

That's news to me.

Agreed. I said he could be anywhere. Read.

He's one man among countless millions. The surprise is how many top Al Qaeda leaders HAVE been found ALREADY.

How come Al-Jazeera was told by the US to broadcast the tape ASAP.

You got more scoops than Al Jazeera. I heard the opposite, that the U.S. petitioned Qatar to put a lid on the tape.

How come he looks younger than he should be.

How old is he supposed to look?

He's a madman, what difference does it make.
It does make a big difference. A mad man is a mad man. He just does not change overnight.

I am not defending him being on the loose. But the timing is not right. If you research a bit more I'll find that Al-Jazeera was asked to air the film earlier.
Actually , when I commented earlier, I didn't hightlight as I should have - in that who is taking care of him? Signals point to Pakistan.

Musharraf certainly doesn't want him taken in - he has enough trouble on his hands taking him in would be distasterous.

But then he isn't a priorty for the US either. If he is alive - he would indeed be a protected man. Considering the bounty on his head ($50 million now?) the only persons capable of protecting him would be intelligence personal - the CIA field office - the ISI - would ensure he's well fed and plump.

This could be intelligence agencies keeping a watchful eye in local tribesman etc - they would be doing this anyway.

BUT. There are other notes to be made about this lastest video appearance. Later...
