Some jurisdictions are far more free-trading that Canada. Hong Kong and Singapore come to mind along with New Zealand as the clearer examples.

This Liberal idiot is ready to protect the steel industry but when the Oil industry needed assistance, he was nowhere to be found, and now to build an Oil pipeline, he does nothing.

If we went rouge on the US Canada would be in full production mode using the part of the steel industry that is left to go whole hog and treat the hemp industry like it was a contract like the Arrow was. The 10 -20 year program would add textiles and 1,000 other products hemp allows. Somebody driving across Sask and Man would go bonkers as the only sky they could see was a sliver as the hemp grew right up to the side of the asphalt.
Hemp straws, the ones the turn into black dirt a year after they hit the ground. Perhaps even ship some to the new Province, New Brition as they will be out of straws soon.

How do you help out something that is already an monopoly? (besides the subsidiaries and other ways the royalties to the 'taxpayer' are reduced as much as possible as that is more for 'the owners' who see that same product back to us at 100x their cost.

Why should he have helped the oil industry? You're not an admirer of Chairman Mao are you?

I see. So when Trump orders a bailout it is patriotic, but it's protectionism when Canada does it.

No. Trump is a fool when it comes to economic policy. Morneau should not be emulating him.

when they shovel $4 billion dollars into a pipeline with no prior discussion that doesn't need special rules.

just buy all the industries.
