I'm not sure one's life flashes before their eye's

when you are about to die.

July 14/17 around noon I died, according to all involved.

I was in the right lane on the QEW and was headed up the Burlington Skyway to Hamilton going around 100 or so.

As I was starting to ascend my head started turning to the left in say 5 second increments. It would then swing back straight. The speed at which this action accelerated was incredible and I will say the increments of head swinging were at least 1 per second. I don't know how long it lasted but I remember vehicles going by on my left but it like a blur and they were sounding their horns.

At this point I could not move. I could not take my foot off the gas or put the brake on or signal or steer. I was Seized as in having a Seizure.

I do recall thinking that this must be how I'm going to die, more along an accident because I didn't know what was happening to me medically.

Next thing I know I have someone yelling at me to squeeze their hand if I can hear them. I know he did it a few times and I finally did. I opened one eye and saw the word police on his vest.

A big cheer went up when I squeezed his hand from the Paramedics who were working on me.

I'm hazy on all the details but what the OPP told me there was a big rig truck driver could see me in passed out as I drifted to the left towards the median.

Apparently he stayed to the left of me to block traffic from passing me on the left and getting pushed over to guard rail or me sideswiping them and causing a chain reaction of collisions.

At this point I was unconscious I wasn't putting any pressure on the gas pedal so I basically stalled at the top against the barrier and the trucker jumped out and put the car in park so it wouldn't roll back.

That's pretty Phucking impressive that this person was so alert. I have new respect for Truck Drivers andwill be getting ahold of the OPP this week to get more details and I want to nominate this guy for some kind of award, Hero Trucker or whatever because he helped out more than just me.

He and some others helped the cop pull me out.

The cop said I was gone.

No vital signs, no breathing and blue as blue could be, no pulse, eyes rolled back.

The reason the cops and ambulance were their so quickly is because people were phoning 911 because of my slow incline and drifting which took about 20 minutes until I came to a stop against the median

Next thing I remember is someone yelling at me to squeeze their hand if I could hear them. Eventually I did and he said so loudly and a cheer went up.

I opened my one eye and could see POLICE on his vest.

Turns out I have a fluid build up on the Brain which has been caused by a cancer spot.

I spent the week in Hamilton and got home July 21. I will say excellent care in Hamilton which is a teaching hospital and I had 2 neurologists watching my case.

I have an appointment Monday am with a brain cancer specialist so we will see how that goes.

I do not recall my life passing before my eye's as they say although when I thought I was going to die before losing consciousness it may have happened.

McMaster also has the best burn unit in the country .... donated by Stelco because of the horrendous burn cases that come about from making steel.

Our doctors and hospitals are good at trauma, chronic issues, not so much.

Wow Tay... it's amazing you survived that. I truly hope there is effective treatment for the cancer... and that they caught it early enough.
You have been one of my favourite posters on here. I thoroughly enjoy your threads and opinions. I'm not a prayer or believer... but my thoughts are with you and I sincerely hope for the best outcome for you.

As for the OP... I have no experience to draw from, but it does seem to me that everyone who has a story... has a different experience to tell. So, how valid the "going into the light" experience is? I don't know... and I'm not one who believes in the phenomenon either.

This does not give any clear vision of the spirit-world or the Afterlife; it is almost like any other fainting or loss of consciousness then regaining consciousness.

So it is not like the marvelous story of the Abu Abd-Allah "Hour among spirits"

Remove the space in the last word gho sts , and make it ghosts

Anyhow, yesterday, I saw a man whom I know, I saw his face changing:
I asked him: "What's the matter with you?"
He said: "I had a CVA or stroke!"

I know the man is one of the Shia'a enthusiastic about Imam Ali and his sons; so I advised him:
" You have to take your medications, and ask from God and pray to Him alone to cure you, but don't go to the tombs of imams and sheikhs to ask your needs out of them; don't let anyone cheat you to do this, or else your illness will worsen."

He said: I will ask my needs only from God Most Gracious!

Although I know he lied, he may go to ask his needs from the imams, as Satan and his devils suggest to him, in addition to the suggestions of his friends the enthusiastics.

Flash back memory can be triggered by a sight, a smell and even a sound, and can be as realistic as reliving it again......and sometimes you can't even pinpoint the origin of that memory....

One fellow I used to work with that should have died in an industrial accident told me later that at the time he was going towards a light when a voice said" GOP back Howard it is not time yet". He eventually made it back to work but died of an un related illness about 5 years later.

I suppose it is that simple and, as some claim they may have seen their life flash but it is truly darkness, like being sound asleep. I have zero recall between thinking this is how I am going to die and waking up to the cop asking me to squeeze his hand.

Hummm. I guess we all will have different experiences but somehow it wasn't my turn, at least on that day.....

A special thanks to all of you, political/philosophical friend or foe.

Saw a rather nice cancer Doctor today who told me that the spot is small so it will be, well, my words, easier.

Off to St Mikes Tuesday to see a neurosurgeon.

They couldn't tell me if they will operate Tuesday or not because it's up to the Doctor for time.

But they did tell me about neurosurgeons. I know we all know they are a rare breed but they explained it's not just the Doctor himself but the whole team of nurses and support staff that is required

The good news is that I won't have to go to Toronto for the follow up treatment after the operation.

It's interesting how I feel right now. I feel at peace to an extent, maybe just accepting my fate. And I don't feel at peace because of optimism in the surgery but I guess it's more like What The F*** Can I do About It Attitude.

I didn't tell the wife all last week what was wrong other than the fluid buildup. She's not stupid so she may have figured it out on her own but we didn't discuss it until I got home Friday night.

OH YES; If any of you experience headaches go get yourself an MRI. I have had headaches for some time but brushed them off as stress of life.

The MRI by the way is F***ing scary but worth it. I'm claustrophobic and they knew that. I went into the room and it was black and so was the machine. They give you a bell thing to ring if you want out. They had me out in 5 seconds. They then gave me some serious drugs and after half an hour took me into a brighter room with a bright machine. It actually looked like a Cat Scan Machine. It's extremely noisy but they put headphones on you and crank up your choice of music which helped plus they covered my eyes so I couldn't see anything.

Medication lesson; ASK!

Please excuse my typing errors in my posts as I had another seizure Aug 24, this time at home. Turns out the level of the anti-seizure drug Dilantin was too low.

I was taking 300mgs and the Emerg Doc figured it out and raised it to 400.

I went for blood tests yesterday and my Doctor just called and said it's still too low and to raise it to 500 starting Aug 31.

The lesson is to ask. I have never been on medications at all so I had no experience with them. Nobody had told me that I needed to get 'the levels' of these drugs checked bi-weekly.

I am also taking dexamethasone to reduce flid swelling on the brain.

Here's letter I emailed my doctor Monday that got him to rush me for a blood test;

Today, Aug 27 was my worst day and I think the concentration on the side effects of dexamethasone (a steroid) are overblown compared to the Dilantin side effects. everyone is concerned about the effects of me being weaned off dexamethasone but it has to be the Dilantin that is the culprit.

I took my 4 capsules 400mg total between 7 am and 730am. I felt okay when I woke up around 5. An hour after taking the Dilantin I started to fell not well. my left arm felt very weak and I did not feel like eating. She went down the street to get us a coffee at tim hortons and I felt so bad I walked to the end of the driveway with the portable phone ready to call 911 or at least if had another seizure a passerby may see me and call

I had been looking up shower chairs because I want to get one for myself I wasn't having too much luck so we decided to go to the big mall at 9 am and look around for one.

I walked a fair distance around the mall. Sears nor Shoppers drug had anything. We were told to check Walmart. When we got back to the car I really felt bad, slow almost slurry, weak speech and my left arm was extremely weak. I also developed a headache before leaving but took nothing for it. While at the mall I felt nauseas to the point I thought I may actually vomit but didn't. I was not dizzy or constipated and no tremors or rash. I find it interesting that it can cause both dowsiness and insomnia.

We skipped Walmart and came home. I had sausages, eggs, French fries and toast and had a dexamethasone even though I was told to cut back to one every other day but no one suggested I get the 'levels' checked first so I am going to continue to take them

I went to sleep for 3 hours and now I feel okay and my left arm is much stronger as is my speech

Common side effects of Dilantin include headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, slurred speech, loss of balance or coordination, swollen or tender gums, sleep problems (insomnia), nervousness, tremors, or rash.

Side effects of Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Dexamethasone is used to treat many different conditions such as allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or breathing disorders.

I crossed that 'requirement' off the list some time ago. Should one have one of those moments it might be you sunconcious giving you a wake-up call about it being time for some life changes.

You have already kissed your drivers goody-bye as part of the changes you story will cause, right. An e-scooter is your best option now, black out on that and you might not to be saved. I'm quite serious about older people making sure they the a 'do not resuscitate' tattoo if your heart had already stopped. The theory is that surviving one of those comes with a risk of being an invalid.
