Next Thursday, Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland , Canada , and other Commonwealth Realms , shall conduct an inspection of The King’s Troop , Royal Horse Artillery at Hyde Park, in order to honour its sixtieth anniversary. The Queen is the Captain General of the Royal Regiment of Artillery , and Head of the Armed Forces . Only The Queen can declare war or peace for the United Kingdom or for Canada .

The King’s Troop was created in 1947, when the late His Majesty George VI , King of the United Kingdom , and Canada , inspected a group of soldiers whom he desired be deemed His Majesty’s troop. The Queen decided to continue to style the soldiers “The King’s Troop” through Her Majesty’s reign in order to honour Her Majesty’s father, and the special interest that His Majesty took in that particular group of soldiers. The King’s Troop takes part in several State ceremonies, and holds higher precedence than any other regiments—it has the honour of parading ahead of others, and on the right-hand side.

In Canada, there is also a practice of having several regiments at the personal service of The Sovereign and, as such, Her Majesty’s viceregal representative. At the service of Her Excellency The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean C.C. C.M.M. C.O.M. C.D. , the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief in and over Canada , there is the Governor General’s Foot Guards , the Governor General’s Horse Guards , and the Canadian Grenadier Guards .
