Well of course, he's a hard core left-winger and as we all know, when leftists lose elections it's a clear cut case of democracy being broken and when they win elections, it's because democracy is working just fine. But what can you expect, extremists don't really get democracy.

I see, so youre okay with the Libs winning a majority with less than 40% of the vote.

Noted.

I call it "outcome-determinative." Their approval or disapproval of a system or measure depends entirely on whether or not it produces an outcome they like.

They believe in and are dedicated to nothing but their opinion of the moment. And they do not give two shits, no nor even one shit, how that outcome is achieved.

Such people are a fertile breeding ground for fascism.

And they are about evenly distributed between the poorly named, ill-defined, nearly nonsensical "right" and "left."

I'm going to give you a compliment here, Jin. Just wanted to warn you so you don't fall over from the shock.

You're not one of them.

You do understand that this is a plurality system, right? I was okay with the Conservatives' 39.6% majority and I was okay with Liberals' 39.5% majority. In both cases the popular vote was also won.
What was funny was listening to all the leftards whining that 39.6% was NOT a majority when it was a Conservative govt but 39.5% was a clear cut landslide majority govt when it was the Liberals who won.

Same in Ontario. Ford took 40% of the vote and the leftards screamed that 40% isn't a majority and that he doesn't speak for all Ontarians. And yet at no point in 15 years did the Liberal govt of Ontario ever garner 40% of the vote. In fact, over the last 40 years the only Premiers/govts to have won more seats in Ontario than Ford was Peterson in 1987 and Mike Harris in 1995. (Peterson won a whopping 95 seats in 1987 but we all know what happened to him).

Clearly it's the leftists that have a problem with democracy.

Thank you for recognizing that, despite our posting history. I like your definition too. It's perfect.
I do get a laugh though. I've had right-wingers call me a socialist and left-wingers calling me fascist or nazi. It's hilarious. But as Ike said, "The middle of the road is all the usable surface. The extremes, left and right, are the gutters."

This kind of crap is exactly the reason the US "Founding Fathers" tried to avoid the trap of party politics by scrapping the idea of party politics. Sadly, it didn't take long for that to go to straight to shit.

And I know I like to rag on leftists and their existence in a fairy tale world of moral and emotional relativism, but the reality is, that's how all extremism works. It's how people justify their deplorable beliefs and actions. Much like religion.

Just making sure you understand that I can still hate the outcome of an election without crying that something's wrong with the system.
Albeit the last election is a bit of an anomaly. And I think it's utterly ridiculous that a govt that barely squeaked out a minority govt and couldn't even win the popular vote is currently acting like it's the ONLY game in town.

I have two questions for you. A) Do you support a gun ban in principle? B) Do you support the way Trudeau "passed" his own gun ban? A ban that is also racist I might add.

Agree about elections.

To be honest, I really dont care about the gun ban either way. I would say banning legal guns ( sporting firearms, no WMDs ) is a tad redundant while you have illegal guns pouring across the border.

And my being able to hunt with one of those firearm because I'm Mtis is racist!....
That's the advantage of being bi-racial, I can evaluate both sides!

Hell, half the time I agree with you completely.

See, here's what most people don't get.

Too many people on the right say "There is no problem" to avoid having to do anything about it.

Too many people on the left say "There is a problem" and demand another government program, because THIS NEXT government program will fix the problem the way the last 'leventy-ump government programs failed to.

I take one from Column A and one from Column B. Yes, there is a problem. And the best way to fix it is to do nothing.

Race problems? Crack down hard on actual, individual cases of discrimination, and wait. The disadvantaged race will elevate itself, or it won't. You can't force somebody to be successful. (Actually, some members of the disadvantaged race will elevate themselves, and some won't. Just like whites).

Same thing with sex. Don't "compensate" those who didn't suffer at the expense of those who didn't discriminate. Stop the discrimination and let time even things up.

And ferfoxsake, don't discriminate "beneficially." All the special status y'all gave Indians, and they're still the poorest, sickest, least educated, most f*cked-up people in Canada. That's a hint.

Yes, there is a problem with policing in America. It is racist. The numbers are there. And the solution is to enforce an ethos among cops of color-blindness. It worked for the military (the most non-discriminatory sector of American society, because of rigid and harsh rules against discrimination, NOT because of special programs for black and brown and red soldiers, there are no such programs). That's another hint.

So a week or so ago, I would have thought covid-19 would make it a close race but if this racism story keeps in the spotlight, he may actually be pretty screwed.

The polls predicted more Americans would vote for Hillary than for Trump.

She got 3 million more votes.

So, the American election isn't won or lost on individual votes.

If the election were held today. . .

1. Almost nobody would vote, because it's already afternoon and most people wouldn't hear about it time to get to the polls.

2. It wouldn't count because Election Day is set by law.
