Premier Rachel Notley to help open New York climate change symposium

Premier Rachel Notley will make an appearance Monday alongside other political and business leaders at the opening ceremonies of a climate change event in New York.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz were also announced for the kickoff event for Climate Week NYC, which brings together “influential global figures — and new voices — from the worlds of business, government and society who are leading the low carbon transition.”

Notley will make remarks and take part in a panel discussion, according to an official itinerary issued by the premier’s office Friday.

“People from across North America, including President Obama, have recognized that Alberta is reducing emissions while promoting growth,” Notley said in a statement. “As Albertans, we know that our expertise in responsible, innovative energy production is as valuable as any of our resources.”
