President’s Choice 100% Cricket Powder
President’s Choice has launched its 100% high-protein Cricket Powder, made with insect protein from a cricket farm in Canada.
Word is the product is packed with vitamins and minerals and has a neutral flavour that works well in a variety of recipes. We’re also told crickets need 12 times less feed than cattle, four times less feed than sheep and half as much feed as pigs and broiler chickens.
“By making products like Cricket Powder widely available in our grocery stores, we are giving Canadians the option to not only try something new, but to also make a conscious decision on what they eat and how it impacts the environment,” says Kathlyne Ross, v-p of product development and innovation for Loblaw.
Meanwhile, Jarrod Goldin, president of Entomo Farms, where the crickets are produced, says, “We are striving to take the next step to ensure innovative, inspiring and most importantly conscious food options are available for Canadians – and we believe cricket powder is just scratching the surface.”
Nineteen grams (2 1/2 Tbsp.) of cricket powder comes in at 90 calories and 3.5 grams of fat and 13 grams of sugar.
