German shopping centre on LOCKDOWN as police receive credible terror threat

Officers claimed the closure was due to "concrete indications about a possible attack."

In a statement, a North Rhine Westphalia Police spokesman said: "The current state of our investigations points to the threat being exclusively at the shopping centre."

But they added they could give no further details about the nature of the threat at the Limbecker Platz centre, in Essen.

The spokesman added: "In order to avoid possible danger to visitors, they will not be able to enter the shopping halls or the car park."

The shopping centre is made up of around 170 shops and eating outlets, serving around 60,000 customers every day.

Writing on its Facebook page, the centre said the measure are necessary to “foil possible threats to our visitors".
