Good for them.

Good that you think that.

When there's a mass exodus of nurses and other medical people out of NB because Higgs won't pay them, you can blame him for more "Easterners" taking Western Jobs.

After all, Higgs did tell people if they don't want to work for the pay they get now, move to Alberta.

Too many have become dependent on the Feds to endlessly bail-out that region, it's kinda an entitlement now.

And yet most of us DON'T want to have to be bailed out.

Of course no one in the West seems to get that.

Why do you think so many move West? It's so they don't have to be 'bailed out' by the Feds.

But those of us who stay hate it.

Do something about it, volunteer paying higher taxes, instead of receiving tax money from the west.

In Sask. when we went into deficit a couple of years ago we encouraged our Gov. to raise the pst. to get back to a balanced budget, we hit a balanced budget last year. Once this Pandemic thing is under control I expect a pst. reduction again.

Gotta get spending under control, balance the budget then start handing out raises as finances allow, can't keep looking at what other provinces can afford to pay nurses if you can't afford the same rates.

Experts call on Canadian universities to close off China's access to sensitive research

The U.S. State Department revealed last week that, over the past three months, it has expelled more than a thousand Chinese "high-risk graduate students and research scholars" who were working at American universities.

The State Department said their visas were revoked under Presidential Proclamation 10043, issued by President Donald Trump at the end of May to counter "a wide‑ranging and heavily resourced campaign to acquire sensitive United States technologies and intellectual property, in part to bolster the modernization and capability of its military, the People's Liberation Army."

The individuals whose visas were revoked represent only a small fraction of the 370,000 Chinese nationals studying in the U.S. — and a big escalation in Washington's conflict with China over the control of the world's most coveted technologies.

Washington is not alone in suggesting that the Chinese military has encouraged or even enlisted academics to collaborate with counterparts in the West, in person or remotely, while masking their affiliations with the People's Liberation Army [PLA] or its institutes of learning, such as the National University of Defence Technology.

In Canada, the Commons Committee on Canada-China Relations heard similar allegations in testimony in the weeks leading up to prorogation — including the claim that some of the core technology behind China's surveillance network was developed in Canadian universities.

In Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald documented a startling array of projects which saw Australian scientists collaborate with Chinese universities to carry out military research beneficial to the PLA — some of it funded by Australian taxpayers. Much of that research found its way into new Chinese weapons systems or the surveillance networks employed by the Chinese regime, the Herald said.

In 2018, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute published a study that looked at the number of peer-reviewed papers co-authored by PLA scientists and overseas researchers. It found that universities in Australia and Singapore had the highest level of collaboration.

But three Canadian universities also made the top ten ranking: the University of Toronto (10th place), McGill University (9th), and the University of Waterloo (4th).....More

Rare 102-carat Canadian diamond at auction this month could be among the world's most expensive

A rare 102-carat diamond found in Northern Ontario two years ago could be among the most expensive of its kind in an auction that starts online and is set to culminate in person in Hong Kong in early October.

Mined at DeBeers' now-closed Victor Mine in 2018, the diamond, about the size of a small egg, was cut from a larger 271-carat rough diamond, and then cut and polished for more than a year.

Those in the industry say the stone has a lot of features going for it. The diamond is known as a Type II diamond, which are among the most chemically pure among naturally occurring diamonds. Only about one or two per cent of all diamonds end up being Type II, Toronto-based high-end jewelry designer Reena Ahluwalia says. It's also rated D colour and considered flawless, a characterization that British auction house Sotheby's says is bestowed on only 0.5 per cent of all mined diamonds.

Sotheby's started the bidding for the stone online this week, and the process will finish off with an in-person auction in Hong Kong on Oct. 5. As a testament to its rarity, the auction is being held without a reserve price, which means there is no minimum bid, and no figure to theoretically limit what a buyer may think it is worth. Sotheby's says it is the first time a diamond of this calibre has ever been sold without a reserve price......More

You've hated it all these decades, eh?.. Don't want the perpetual bail-out, but you'll grudgingly accept it year over year over year

They had a strong economy and economic and political clout at confederation . Canada has treated them so well their economy is shot and their population in flight and they obviously like it as they constantly elect liberals to Ottawant .

Why did your forebears let Ottawa kill their economy and take the easy federal money and jobs ?
