Uh yeah. Good luck going to war with a semi-automatic rifle as your main weapon, idiot! But let's apply your crappy attitude of assuming you know what one needs. Nobody living in a city needs a personal motor vehicle. You have public transit options and there'd be fewer pedestrian deaths.
In fact, more people were run over and killed just in Toronto last year than the number of people who were killed by someone with a semi-automatic rifle across the entire country. In Canada's WORST year, fewer than 65 people were killed by someone with a semi-automatic rifle. By comparison, 23,000 Canadians die every year from second-hand smoke. Haven't heard any grumblings from the gumbymint about banning cigarettes.
Nor have I heard them discuss the Akwesasne reserve problem. You see OB, the Akwesasne reserve is a pipeline for firearms from the US. As long as it remains a pipeline, the ban will be worse than useless. What's also interesting is what made the list and what didn't. Why are some semi-automatic rifles still permitted? I can no longer purchase a Ruger Mini-14 ranch rifle, but I can still buy a .50 BMG. Yep, that makes sense.
Note it says assault style. NOT assault weapons. The decision is based on what some Moron thinks looks like Rambo would use it. Nothing at all to do with the actual workings.
That is because you understand wrong. So the rifle your grandfather brought back with him from WW2 is now illegal.
Like automatic handguns that are basically illegal for law abiding taxpayers but the choice of criminals I fail to see how this latest gun grab is going to prevent criminals from obtaining or using what the clueless call assault rifles. Must be close to 25 years ago the same bunch of clowns stole all the previously legal but restricted automatic rifles. But only from unsuspecting law abiding citizens that were foolish enough to register said toys. So the government knew where most of the ones that would never get used in a crime were. Never stopped a criminal since he didn't Register his. Much like handguns that have had to be registered since 1935 but none of the ones used in crimes are ever registered. Makes the law useless and government look naive.
