Well that placing of Vancouver and Victoria apparently has to do with there being ......................
LARGER CITIES in third world countries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the real fact of plastic in the ocean is that people in third world countries....................
DO NOT MIND throwing trash at sea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After all - New York City dumped its trash at sea for many years - until a BIG PILE OF IT........................
washed back on shore and ruined summer at the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And there is old legislation on the Toronto books specifying.........................
NO DUMPING OF DEAD HORSES OR OTHER DEAD ANIMALS INTO THE HARBOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine drinking THAT WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently in the old days it was not uncommon to tow dead horses and such out onto the lake ice.....................
and leave them there - to float away or whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was a "free flush"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing wrong with gill netting. It is seine nets and draggers that need to be eliminated. Gill nets target fish by size of the openings. Smaller fish swim through and larger ones mostly bounce off.
So...........you could encourage people in the lower main land to build sewage treatment plants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And you could encourage farmers to be more careful about applying pesticides and insecticides and fertilizer.......................
onto fields near water ways - so the crap does not end up getting washed into water ways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See- lots of useful things you could do........................
