Scheer leads Trudeau nationally, trails in Ontario

The Conservatives hold the lead nationally but are facing an uphill battle when it comes to winning the biggest prize in this election: Ontario.
A poll of 1,517 Canadian voters conducted September 11, the day the election was called, found that the Conservatives hold the support of 35% of voters nationally, the Liberals 32% support, the NDP 15% and the Greens 8%.
While those numbers should provide cheer to Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer as he seeks to unseat Justin Trudeau, it is the regional breakdowns that should give him pause.
The Conservatives hold a significant lead across the prairies and a slight lead in British Columbia but they trail the Liberals from Ontario east.
The Liberals have sat at 40% support among Ontario voters in the the DART & Maru/Blue Voice Canada Poll since late June.
The Conservatives meanwhile have just 33% in Ontario, down 7 points from the last DART poll in mid-August.
Pollster John Wright, partner at DART, said that the solid lead in Ontario is partly due to the weeks following the Ethics Commissioner’s report that found Trudeau broke the conflict of interest law in his handling of the SNC-Lavalin affair.

“In the wake of that report, Mr. Trudeau and his cabinet ministers fanned out across the country and literally ‘money-bombed’ key areas of the country that the Liberals hope to either hold or resuscitate their vote,” Wright said.
A review of government spending announcements by the Canadian Press found that over the summer the Liberals announced $10 billion in new funding at 1,000 different announcements and that 75% of the announcements happened in Liberal held seats.
The Liberals hold 32% of the vote in Quebec with the Conservatives just behind at 28% and the Bloc at 23%. Wright said the NDP have fallen well back.
“What once was the ‘orange crush’ in Quebec for the NDP is a mere shadow now with the NDP holding just 7% of the deciding vote,” Wright said.
British Columbia is a bright spot for the NDP where the party hold 27% support ahead of the Liberals at 25% but behind the Conservatives at 31% support.

Have to agree to disagree on that one, while I have to agree with Scheer's evaluation of Justin, he hasn't really said what HE is going to do and besides his interests are in the east. Jag Singh is on the side of the common man and is trying to reduce outrageous basic living costs. I know the "dipper" label leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, but really they are all a bunch of Dippers in one aspect or another.

OTTAWA — Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau skipped the Maclean's/Citytv debate Thursday night, the first of the federal election campaign, but his three main rivals took swings at his record and each other.

The Canadian Press Baloney Meter, which is a dispassionate examination of political statements culminating in a ranking of accuracy on a scale of "no baloney" to "full of baloney," reveals some of the misleading things they said.

"We look at some of the decisions that (Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau) has made over the past year. He gave $14 billion away to the wealthiest corporations so they could buy corporate jets and limousines. He bought a pipeline for $4.5 billion. That's almost $20 billion that he committed to the wealthiest and the most powerful. We'd make different choices."

NDP policy is actually WORSE for ordinary people since corporations kill jobs after NDP taxes hit them - as Ontari-owe NDP premier Bob Rae PROVED!! Last November, the Liberal government unveiled a plan to help Canada compete with the United States for investment dollars.

It includes changes that would allow businesses to immediately write off the full costs of some types of equipment and machinery, as well as allow companies of all sizes, and across all sectors, to expense a larger share of new assets.

The measures, as mentioned in the 2018 fall economic statement, are expected to lower federal revenues by about $14 billion by 2024.

(Yes- LIE-berals excel at moving money around - and it is ALL BAIT AND SWITCH GARBAGE to give the illusion of govt aid!! If LIE-beral deals are so grand then why is General Motors leaving Canada- right after LIE-berals decided to forget about $2.8 Billion dollars in “un-collectable” loans formerly made to GM and Chrysler !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Christopher Ragan, an associate professor of economics at McGill University, said Singh was being misleading when he said only the rich benefit.

"There is a lot of empirical evidence across countries and across time that when you stimulate investments ... the benefit of the investment flows through to greater employment, higher wages, higher productivity," said Ragan.

The second part of the statement is about how the Liberal government bought the Trans Mountain pipeline project from Kinder Morgan, after political opposition to expanding the existing pipeline between Alberta and the B.C. coast gave the company and its investors cold feet.

LIE-berals HAD APPROVED the pipeline and various community groups - including natives had reached agreement -but work was halted by a RADICAL FEW that LIE-berals REFUSED TO CONFRONT - because LIE-berals are in a vicious fight for votes with NDPers and Greenies!! LIE- berals simply could not afford to do battle with radical protestors for fear of losing desperately needed votes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Trevor Tombe, an associate professor of economics at the University of Calgary, said the pipeline, if and when it is built, would shrink the difference in the price of oil from Alberta versus oil from elsewhere in the world — a gap that is caused by transportation costs.

(Another evasion of TRUTH!! Cdn oil currently sells at a steep DISCOUNT to Yankees since they are the only market Cdn oil producers can reach without a pipeline!! By building Kinder Morgan - we can ship oil out to world markets where the PRICE PAID IS MUCH HIGHER!! And there is the added advantage that much of the world would rather buy Cdn oil than oil from Iran or Russia!!!!!!)

(Cdns buy health care with oil revenue- the Russians and Iranians buy weapons so they can threaten their neighbours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Shipping the oil by rail is more expensive than by pipeline and reduces the price Alberta's oil can command.

(As mentioned -the MAIN Problem is selling only to Yankees - we get more cash in a world market and the world DOES NOT use more oil if Cdns come into the market - we merely give customers more alternative about where they buy!!!!!!!!)

"That matters, because it affects revenue to the businesses, of course, which affects their willingness to invest, which affects employment and oil production in Canada," Tombe said.

(The current LIE-beral position which involves two faced dealing with the public and oil industry is the MAJOR PROBLEM preventing investment!! LIE-berals have told us that completing Kinder Morgan is essential for the Cdn economy and they also told us they want to DESTROY the entire Cdn oil patch and push up the cost of their carbon tax SCAM so high that we never use fossil fuel ever again!! It is fair for Singh to say he would make different choices about how to use federal revenues as prime minister.

It was misleading of him to characterize the corporate tax changes and the pipeline purchase as a handout to the wealthy and powerful without acknowledging how ordinary Canadians might benefit, too.

Faced with questions about obstructing the RCMP from investigating his own office, Justin Trudeau stood smiling before the cameras and tried to hide behind the facade of the civil service.

“We respect the decisions made by our professional public servants. We respect the decision made by the clerk,” Trudeau said.

Which is strange because the reason the RCMP wanted to obtain documents from his office and speak to witnesses is because Trudeau didn’t respect the decision of the director of public prosecutions in the SNC-Lavalin case. In that instance, Trudeau and many in his office put extreme pressure on then attorney-general Jody Wilson-Raybould to overturn the decision of the director.

(There is a major question here - related to law- is a civil servant LEGALLY ENTITLED to AID a corrupt govt to HIDE evidence of corruption - as the Privy Council Clerk and his staff appear to be doing with Lavalin!! Now, Trudeau says he respects decisions made by professional public servants. Maybe because the decision made by the Clerk of the Privy Council effectively killed off the attempt by the RCMP to investigate Trudeau and those around him for breaking the law and engaging in obstruction of justice.

If you haven’t heard, we found out on the eve of the election call, via the Globe and Mail, that the Mounties attempted to investigate Trudeau and his office for obstruction but were themselves obstructed from fully doing so. The Clerk of the Privy Council, Ian Shugart, said he would not expand a limited waiver for people to talk to police or for documents to be handed over for examination.

He cited cabinet confidentiality.

(So we ask - does cabinet confidentiality cancel out presenting evidence of criminal acts?? Are HOGS remaining silent for fear of losing their solid gold LIE-beral supplied union PENSIONS????????????)

So we have our national police force interested enough in finding out if Trudeau and his team broke the law that they are asking questions and the Privy Council Office (PCO) shuts them down. Trudeau and his team want you to think he had nothing to do with this decision but here is the reality: Shugart reports to Trudeau, not the other way around.

(At the very least we need a much expanded provincial level investigation as the Quebec Provincial Charbonneau Inquiry heard testimony that MULTIPLE engineering firms were involved in bribery - and not just Lavalin - but NO INVESTIGATION into that allegation was ever made - due to legal limits put on Charbonneau investigators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

When the RCMP wanted to gain access to documents in the Mike Duffy investigation, a waiver was granted to allow access to those documents and for staff to speak freely to the police. When Vice-Admiral Mark Norman was on trial and the issue of cabinet confidence was raised, former prime minister Stephen Harper gave permission to open up any documents the court needed for the trial.

Even former Liberal prime minister Paul Martin granted a waiver on cabinet confidence to allow the Gomery Commission to investigate the Sponsorship Scandal.

(And yet LIE-berals Chretien and Martin DID LIMIT the scope of the Gomery Inquiry!! Its just the usual LIE-beral SMOKE SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

That Trudeau is not granting a waiver and hiding behind the PCO decision shows he simply wants this shut down.

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer called on Trudeau to immediately waive cabinet confidence to allow the RCMP to gain access to people and documents.

“We know that the power to waive cabinet confidence and the power to waive privilege rests with the prime minister. That is clear. It’s within his power to do so,” Scheer told reporters before boarding his campaign plane in Ottawa.

The problem is that the RCMP have put any investigation or inquiries on this matter on hold while the election takes place. It’s part of a policy that stops the Mounties from conducting sensitive probes during elections.

That doesn’t mean Trudeau shouldn’t waive cabinet confidence and allow people to speak or documents to be obtained — he should. But he should have done so months ago.

(As I said - timing is everything and Trudope has nicely run out the clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Instead, Trudeau has been trying to walk past this scandal by shutting down a House of Commons committee, blocking the ethics commissioner and now obstructing an RCMP investigation.

Canadians deserve better. Canadians deserve the truth. That’s something Trudeau doesn’t want to give them.

Have to agree to disagree on that one, while I have to agree with Scheer's evaluation of Justin, he hasn't really said what HE is going to do and besides his interests are in the east. Jag Singh is on the side of the common man and is trying to reduce outrageous basic living costs. I know the "dipper" label leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, but really they are all a bunch of Dippers in one aspect or another.

LILLEY: Conservatives resonating with women

Justin Trudeau wants you to “Choose Forward,” while Andrew Scheer wants you to know that, “It’s time for you to get ahead.”
Neither slogan was chosen by accident; they are intended to reach and speak to specific voters.
Now, thanks to the new DART & Maru/Blue Voice Canada Poll, we know whom the parties are targeting and to a degree why.
Each party is sending out messages that appears broad and open ended to attract as many voters as possible, but in many ways, they are meant to attract those that match the message.

Take the Conservative message, “It’s time for you to get ahead.”
That speaks to the 38% of Canadians who think the economy is worse off than four years ago compared to the 25% that think it is better. It also speaks to the 39% who think it is harder for them to get ahead financially compared to the 23% who think it is easier to get ahead.
Pollster John Wright tells me these messages are highly targeted and that the Conservatives are aiming at people that don’t think Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have done a good job on the economy.
“They are incredibly disgruntled and deeply forlorn about their current state of affairs,” Wright said.
By the way, just 47% think Trudeau has done a good job on the economy while 53% think he has done a bad job. The majority in Quebec and Atlantic Canada think Trudeau has been good for the economy and job creation while the majority in every other region think he has performed poorly on those fronts.
Also among those who think Trudeau has been good on the economy are those between 18-34, those with a university education and those who speak French rather than English. Stop and consider where and how Trudeau is crafting his message and it all starts to make sense.
Meanwhile, the majority of men and women, those aged 35 and older, and those who had high school or college education were most likely to say Trudeau performed poorly on the economy and job creation.
The most troubling aspect of these numbers for the Liberals has to be that the majority of women are open to the Conservative message.
Women are more likely to say that is harder rather than easier to get ahead financially, 40% say harder, 22% say easier. They are also more likely to say the Canadian economy is worse off than four years ago, 41% to 22%.
And 61% of women say the affordability of day-to-day living is worse than four years ago compared to 12% who say it is better.
Considering the time and effort that the Liberals have put into making their government so very in tune with women, including the Trudeau announcing himself a feminist at every turn, this is shocking.

So when Scheer and the Conservatives announce that maternity benefits will be tax-free if they form government, when they announce a transit pass tax credit and a tax cut on income below $47,000, they are doing the same type of targeting the Liberals are but potentially stealing votes the Liberals took for granted.
When people are feeling anxious about their finances or the economy, telling them everything is great and that they’ve never had it so good simply won’t work.
Scheer is playing into the anxiety that most Canadians are feeling on the economy. We’ll see in five weeks if that is the ticket to winning this election.

A review of the latest polling data shows exactly why Canada’s main political parties are making pitches on issues like the economy and the ability of everyday voters to get ahead.
A poll of 1,517 Canadians — taken as part of the DART & Maru/Blue Voice Canada Poll — shows plenty of anxiety about the economy and the personal financial situation of voters.
When asked to rate how their own economic situation is compared to four years ago when the last election was held, more Canadians say they are worse off than better off, according to the poll conducted Sept. 11 — just hours after the Oct. 21 election was formally called.
On the key issue of affordability, there is a -46 rating among Canadians with just 13% saying the cost of living is better than 2015 while 59% say it is worse.
John Wright, partner at DART, said this plays well for the Conservatives and their slogan, “It’s time for you to get ahead.”
“It connects and causes leverage with real-time affordability and economic comparisons that Canadians have to compare to where they were four years ago. For the most part, they believe they are worse off than they were in 2015,” Wright said.
Much of the country is feeling that while the economy overall is doing well, they are not part of it. That makes messages such as the Conservative slogan, or the NDP’s “In it for you,” resonate with people not feeling that they are not of the right side of the economy.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t voters doing well, or who feel they are doing well, and find themselves closer to the Liberal slogan of “Choose Forward.”
“This appears to be very highly targeted effort that completely counters the messaging from the Conservative party,” Wright said.
Those most likely to feel they are part of the group that is doing well are those in Quebec, British Columbia and parts of Ontario as well as those who have a university education and are between the ages of 18-34.
Surprisingly, especially considering the emphasis put on wooing women as a voting bloc, women are more likely than men to say they are not getting ahead.
Wright noted that while the Liberal message will resonate with key demographics, Team Trudeau, “is actually on fairly thin ice.” While certain aspects of the Liberal message will attract some voters, negative drivers, such as feeling that the economy is not working for them is more likely to drive voters.
Despite the feelings of voters the Canadian economy has been performing relatively well for the country as a whole — with unemployment low and growth on the positive side, even if not as strong as other countries like the United States — that doesn’t mean voters buy it.
When asked if they believe economists, politicians and others who say the Canadian economy is “in good shape and job growth is strong,” just 44% said yes while 56% said no. In fact a majority in every region of the country said no except Quebec.

A tale of two provinces
You could call it a tale of two regions when it comes to how Canadians feel about the economy. Quebecers feel things are going pretty well while Albertans feel the economy is failing them personally.
When asked to say whether the economy was better, worse or the same as compared to four years ago, 34% of Quebecers said things are better or much better compared to just 10% of Albertans.
When asked if Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have done a good job of managing the economy and creating jobs, 56% in Quebec say yes compared to just 27% in Alberta.
Quebecers are also much more likely to say their personal financial situation is better off than four years ago compared to Albertans (34% to 18%) and that they are better able to get ahead (31% to 13%).
The poll was conducted as part of an online panel on Sept. 11 — hours after the election was called — and is considered accurate within 2.9%, 19 times out of 20.

It's still up in the air, folks. I live in a swing riding and the smallest things can push it either way.

The Liberals advantage over the conservatives is that they contend in so many more riding's. They have a wide base of generally committed voters as opposed to a narrow base of die hard's.

The result that would make me happy is a liberal minority that was controlled by the far left.
