Hey, you guys proudly took over an empire after defeating the dastardly Spaniards who didn't sink the Maine. Bit by bit, one by one. (bullet by bullet, sometimes) your imperial possessions have left you. Why hang on to Puerto Rico so tightly if the Trumpaponians don't think that they're real Americans?
It's what they call the dog-in-the-manger attitude. We don't want it, but don't want anybody else to have it.

Trump's proposal to buy Greenland has produced derision and outrage on the part of Denmark and Greenland inhabitants. It's not for sale and the U.S. can't afford it anyway.

And if it wanted to change its national affiliation it would join Canada to unite the northern indigenous nations in the interests of its cultural and territorial integrity and not for some sleazey short term bribe.

It is logically an extension of the Canada's northern archipelago in any case. Ultimately we'll likely take over Alaska as well which would rationalize North America, north of the of 49th parallel into one contiguous country. But that's a few generations down the line.

It seems with the Latinization of the U.S. their destiny might lie south rather than the north of their present border.. as a contiguous country from the Isthmus of Panama to the Canadian border.

Workers at a Royal Dutch Shell plant in Monaca, Pa., were forced to choose Tuesday between attending a speech by President Trump or forgoing overtime pay that their co-workers would earn.

Attendance was optional, but contract workers who chose not to stand in the crowd would not qualify for time-and-a-half pay when they arrived at work Friday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Several companies with thousands of unionized workers have contracts with Shell, one the world’s largest oil and gas companies.

Workers at the unfinished Pennsylvania Petrochemicals Complex had to arrive at 7 a.m., scan their ID cards and stand for hours until Trump’s speech began, the Post-Gazette reported.

“NO SCAN, NO PAY,” a supervisor for one of the contractors wrote to workers, according to the Post-Gazette.

The contractor’s memo also banned yelling, protesting or “anything viewed as resistance” at Trump’s speech, the Post-Gazette reported.

Trump has cancelled his planned state visit to Denmark in early September, the invitation to which was elicited from the Danes on Trump's request, because they refuse to negotiate the sale of its sovereign territory of Greenland.

Trump tweeted

..The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct (about refusing to negotiate the sale of Greenland). I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!
.. so unless you play by Trump's rules, he's going to take his ball and go home.. take that!

WHY would he waste taxpayers' money on a trip when there is no chance of a sale?

employment figures for 2018-19 over estimated by a mere 500,000

the Trump tax cut has been a complete failure.

US Steel Lays Off 200 Workers Despite Getting $728 Million from Trump Tax Cuts

United States Steel recently announced what it’s calling “temporary layoffs” in Michigan despite reaping a significant windfall from the Trump tax cuts.
According to Business Insider, U.S. Steel is laying off 200 workers at its Great Lakes Works facility in Ecorse, Michigan over the next several weeks. While the company calls them “temporary layoffs,” the company said more layoffs may come “periodically thereafter based on market conditions” after the first round of layoffs and didn’t give a time frame for when those workers may be hired back at the same production levels.

U.S. Steel spokeswoman Meghan Cox attributed the layoffs to “ongoing challenging market conditions,” which suggests President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China may be the key factor in the company’s decision to lay off workers.
The steel workers in Michigan losing their jobs is just the latest example of the Trump tax cuts — which were passed with the help of a majority-Republican Congress in late 2017 — having the opposite effect. While Trump sold the tax cut package to the public by promising it would encourage companies to invest in growing their workforces, the consensus among economists and business publications is that the tax cuts have had little benefit to anyone but the rich.
