Yes let’s keep propping up crony capitalists . They are good corporate citizens who donate regularly to the Liberal party after all .
Somebody propped up you, eh Daddy Warbucks? You sure didn't earn your trillions honestly.

The Trudeau government has given millions to Bombardier and now they're laying off 550 Canadians.
To be fair, Bombardier has been sucking at the taxpayer teat for f*cking decades now.
And now they're really screwed with nothing left but their light rail division. The tough part about that is exports. Most countries prefer to build their own light rail rolling stock. Not a lot of markets in Canada for that stuff right now. There's what, the GTA, Vancouver, Montreal and the light rail corridor between Calgary and Edmonton.

LRTs don't do long hauls. Urban only and there is no line between Calgary and Edmonton.

You won't have anything near the volume of traffic there to cover the costs of passenger rail service ... the Calgary-Red Deer-Edmonton corridor with 1000 passengers a week.

There is a good reason why there is so little passenger rail service in this country and it's not because there was a commie plot to take it away.

It's shitty because VIA is a Crown.

They lost a lot of money killing the southern route from Portage La Perogie to Vancouver and never recovered.

Take a look at what the private owned Rocky Mountaineer charges for Calgary to Vancouver.

FROM
$3,749.00 CAD
First Passage to the West at Great Leisure
VANCOUVER
KAMLOOPS
BANFF
LAKE LOUISE
CALGARY (OR REVERSE)

A berth in Silver and Blue Class on VIA from Vancouver to Regina was $389 and hard to get without booking in advance.

As posted on another thread the Feds. Via procurement dept. awarded passenger car replacement to a German company and rejected Bombardier's bid, now they are blaming Ford for not supporting Bombardier.

SK could pull it off. More rail than any other province.

Could replace STC's cancelled service ;)

My aunt comes to Regina for treatments. A limo/party bus company took over the run. She loves it. More comfortable and she can watch her stories on a big screen.

My mistake. I thought the rail line between the two was similar to the LRT system for GO trains in the GTA. Mind you it's been almost 40 years since the last time I was there.
